Talking Picked up a Turbo

Hey all, after living with my 83 for four years and slowly bringing it back from the brink to it's current state, I've decided to add another car to my collection.

More Pics

I was originally looking to pick up an open trailer for hauling the 83 to Driver's Ed events this year. I started talking to Andy(944Turbo) about the trailer that he had for sale. One thing lead to another and I ended up buying the trailer, with the car on it too! Here's the text from the ad that has most of the modifications to the car in it. I might need to cut this down to fit in my profile.

1986 944 turbo race/track car 2.5 liter turbo full race/track car. 0 miles since rebuild by Rennwerke Porsche. 340 rwhp at 14 lbs boost. Car weighs 2500 lbs. Lindsey stage 3 head (titanium retainers, large valves, extensive porting), Lindsey stage 5 intercooler, Webcam race cam, Technodyne AN fuel lines, Lindsey intake manifold (extremely nice), Electromotive TEC II stand alone, Total Seal piston rings, Pauter rods, aluminum flywheel, cup clutch, ported throttle body, drilled custom worked crank, Lindsey super engine mounts, manual steering rack, 968 brake ducts, big reds (Pagid orange pads), Fabcar a arms, Garret custom turbo, full racers edge solid bushings, and caster blocks, full coilover custom valved Bilsteins (off of Canadian cup racer), torsion bar delete, camber plates, large sways, 75% LSD, 8 point welded cage with Nascar bar (piece of art work), Recaro, Tial wastegate, 18" race version CCW and Hoosiers, aluminum custom dash, Lexan hatch and front windshield, adjustable 968 RS spoiler, fiberglass hood with clips, fiberglass custom rear end, 968 mirrors and door handles, Momo competition steering wheel with quick release, HKS IV elect. boost controller, crank case catch can, SFR full exhaust, 3" custom downpipe, godzilla BOV, Tilton adj brake bias, front splitter, Kokeln large oil cooler kit, custom oil pan baffles and pickup collar, Guru metal head gasket. Pistons, intake manifold, head, headers, and crosssover are all ceramic coated. This car has incredible potential! Spares included: Kokeln air/oil separator, light weight battery.

BTW, the Subaru has to go to pay for this craziness. If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Brett,
The TEC II eliminates the need for a distributor.

Ken,
Nice purchase. I spoke with Andy at length about my plans for my car. At the time, his car wasn't for sale, but I have no doubt that you have yourself an incredible track car, based on his experience with the car and his understanding of what goes into a good 951. Enjoy it.

Like I said in the other thread: that's some nice hardware!

(And I see your point about wanting to play with it on the track...)

See you at Lime Rock!

Magown, I believe it's got 87 lb/hr injectors. I'll check the reciepts when I get home. I'm going to try and setup my laptop tonight to pull the Tec2 files off. I'd love to see yours as well to compare. Here's a dyno chart that Andy gave me. The upper run is at 1 bar of boost. What do you turbo gurus think of that curve? Is it good?

Cass944, like Jon said, the Tec II provides a distributor-less ignition system. If you look towards the front of the engine, in pic 8, you can see the ignition pack. If you look on the SFR website, it has a good description of Tec II.

Jon, it's good to hear that someone else thinks highly of this car. I gave it an extensive once over while it was still at Rennwerke and I could find very few flaws, most of which were minor and cosmetic. The suspension feels tighter(in regards to ball joint play, etc) than any I've felt on a 944. And good lord the engine!

Michael, I knew someone would say something about the hood prop.
