Default Atlanta Area PCA Auto X - March 14th - You Going??

Just wondering who's planning to AX next month. I plan to be there. Info from the Peachstate PCA site.

__________________________________________________________

Saturday MARCH 13th. We will meet at the 5 Seasons Brewery, 5600 Roswell road. They are in the Prado just inside I-285. We have our general meetings here. We’ll start at 9 AM. This will be the classroom part of the school. You will learn the what’s to do when you attend a autox, the safety rules, and all those phrases that us “RACERS” use! Plus learn what a “late apex”, really is.

We also have a driving part of the school. We will have several instructors to actually show you how to do all those maneuvers that we discussed in our classroom. There will be LADY instructors if you so desire. Just a note, Peachstate region has the best women autocrossers in all of PCA. They have come back from the Porsche Parade with the GOLD!! So come out, learn how to drive your Porsche and play with a great group of car crazy people!

Our first autox will be Sunday MARCH 14th @ the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. Our autox school will meet on the site at 8 am, in order to complete the entire autox school. All others will arrive at 11:30 for a course walkthrough, with registration starting at noon. First car out will be at 1pm.Be sure to contact Steve Taft to get a number for your car. Go to the web site to get more info on our numbering system.

Directions: 85 north to Hwy. 316 north, exit Sugarloaf Pkwy., go right, proceed about 5 miles to the Fairgrounds on the left.

I'm there, I asked off work and will most likely be off. My Dad and I will bring the S2. I'm trying to get some friends to bring their cars as well.

Perry,

Do you have to be a PCA member to attend?

What kind of fees? Do I need anything special?

I'd like to go but I am ignorant since I have never attended one before. Help?

I have traded e-mails with the region president trying to get all the info. You need to be at least 18, have a helmet, pass tech (not hard, just make sure the car is in good shape), and $25. (might be $35 depending on # of cars)

Since this will be your 1st, I would do the class on the 13th. Although I have done a few AX's, I'm gonna go anyway to meet some folks and get the idea of how this region runs things.

Thanks, Perry!

Hopefully I can figure out my car's idling problem before then.

My first one also. Looking forward to it and will be participating with my daughter.

Anything specifically should I be checking for on the car mechnaically prior to participating in the event?

I might ride down on the bike just to meet up with the Rennlisters... could care less about the PCA folks (just returning the unwelcome feeling they gave my fiance and I).

Was it that bad? I hope not. The SCCA guys are really friendly. I would hope the same is true with the PCA folks.

It was Beyond 'that bad'.... I'd try talking to someone and they'd just walk away. NO ONE ever approached us, we never felt welcome anywhere with any of those rich snobs.

And that was my take on them too... they were rich snobs. Owned a Porsche for the sake of the badge, belonged to the club so they could appear 'elite' and to hell with anyone else. There are a couple exceptions, but they're the people that prove the rule for the rest of them. My emails/phone calls went completely unanswered (new president since I didn't renew) when I had questions about doing rallys, AutoX and DE events. It was the single aspect of Porsche ownership where I felt like I wasted my money... wish I would have spent the money on donated memberships here.

I'm trying to be civil here, but hopefully you get the point.

Brian, thanks for the insight as the March 13 & 14 Auto-X will be my first outing with the PCA. I hope my experience is better than yours.
