Default Are the 944's Fenders Strong Enough For An Engine Support Bar?

Hello,

I will be doing the rod bearings on a newly acquired 924S soon and heard the remark in one of 'Irina25661's' videos that the 944's fenders weren't strong enough to support the weight of the engine using an engine support bar. Is this the case, or is the opinion overly cautious?

Thank you,

Rick

The support bracket doesn’t sit on the fenders it sits on the frame rail where the fender and inner fender meet. The factory WSM shows a photo of the engine support fitted to the car on those rails so Porsche approved

+1 on the previous post. Additionally, I used a support bar that had a third leg. I used a square rod and supported this from the ground as an extra precaution. I had the engine supported like this for a few weeks as I changed the oil pan gasket and engine mounts. It worked great. I will see if I can find a picture.

I used the one from Harbor Freight with no problems at all.

Thank you for your comments. It sounds like I have nothing to worry about. I will proceed as planned. Now if I can just get it started. I bought it from someone in another state and had it shipped to me. The truck driver started it up, off loaded it, and parked it in front of my house, and it's refused to start since

I just bench press the engine up and lock out with one arm and use the ratchet with the other hand to take the oil pan off. I thought everybody did it that way.
