Default OEM weatherstripping alternatives ?

Hello !

I am working on my son's 1987 944S, and I need to replace door weatherstripping.
He is really on a tight budget, and I wonder if you fine people might have any experience with the more "generic" types of car body weatherstripping that might work?
Seems like I have seen it available before somewhere... in certain lengths, where you cut-to-fit....

Or, maybe I am just remembering the old JC Whitney catalog days ha ha

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Dan

Funny you mention JC Whitney, but they still offer cut to length weather stripping in various profiles.
I ordered some for the door seals on a 1974 240Z that I was working on, and have actually been eyeing a couple shapes as an options to replace a rear quarter window seals on my 928.

only944.com sells much less expensive versions of the "expensive factory" seals.
