Default Newbie - Be Nice!

Hey guy's - I just joined the forum, soon to join Rennlist. I wanted to pop in and say what's up real quick!

I just bought my first 944 about a month ago. A few details: I searched several months online and locally in hopes of finding the "right" car - I did my research! After an exhaustive 3 month search process, I got an unexpected call one Saturday morning. Turns out it was a seller that I had contacted via email at Yahoo Classifieds a month prior. The short of it:

1988 Satin Black Metallic NA - Maroon Leather
89K Original Miles
1 Owner (56 year old doctor)
All dealer documentation and service records since new (I love those little Porsche Dealer stamps in the Maintenance hand book)!
Recent clutch, 951 water pump, a belt job
Original Window Sticker
Garage kept and covered - Mint, Minty, Mint!!!

Price I paid: $4000 cash (Was that a good price?)

I love this car - yet I have only driven it twice due to Michigan weather (once on the trip home form Akron, and once on a "sunny" 33 degree day). She waits in storage until this fine Michigan weather lets up.

I just wanted to quickly share my 944 experience to date. So far nothing but good luck in respect to this car - I just bought (eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2458254266) a set of 18" Turbo Twists with Dunlops for $540 ($300 for wheels/tires - $240 shipping). It took some negotiating, but I think that I stole them at that price. The guy had a poor description and auction title, plus no pic. I added up the prices at the Tire Rack - WOW - did I get a deal or what? By the way - I'm an eBay freak too!

Thanks!

Oh yea I forgot to say the clutch and belts plus water pump if done at the dealer probably came close to the 4k what you paid for. You have a pretty sweet car probably nothing needs attention. Have the belts been retension after 1500 miles or so? If not get that done and you are all set.

Welcome to Rennlist, starr... and it sounds like you got a steal on both counts. $4k is a great price for a mint cond. '44 with those miles!

Enjoy!

Yes - everything (including the tires) where done at the dealer since new. I have a nice 3-ring folder with all the repair slips since 1988. Plus, like I said, the dealer stamped the Maintenace book at all of the service intervals. I thought that was like gold in itself.

I'll get her in for a checkup at the dealer (Fred Avery in Bloomfield Hills) sometime before spring.

I'll have the pics up once the 18" Twists are mounted - maybe I'll do a before/after.

In all seriousness, I still can't believe I got the car for $4000. He (the PO) was a very rich doctor - I knew that I couldn't go wrong. The price started at $6000 - I negotaited to $4000. He said money wasn't the object - he just wanted a good new owner who would care for his baby versus turning it for a profit.

The wheels were just crazy!!! Shows you that hours spent searching on eBay pays off. Most of the true "deals" on eBay are the auctions with poor descriptions and/or titles.

I thought it was an 1988 NA. Clue me in if I'm not right.

Those are some crazy deals! Congratulations!! Now that you have snow tires, you have no excuse but to take her outside for a drive. Go find yourself an eBay deal on a digital camera and post some pics.

Yes - it's an NA. I think horsepowerfarm got a bit excited. If it had been a 951, you guys would have probably hunted me down a beat me silly out of pure jealousy!

Yes - I've got a digital camera. I was hoping to get her cleaned up a bit before the pics. She's a little dusty. It's hard to wash a car when the temp doesn't top 18 degrees! I will without a doubt post some pics when the Twists are bolted up.

I'll be passing on a great deal for the stock 15" Phone Dials for anyone who needs a set of late offsets. They are wrapped with Good Year Eagle GTII - great shape with some paint wear (proabaly from Wheel Cleaner). Tires are about 80% - I was thinking about $250 to $275 on eBay. That would include shipping!

I'd hold on to your phone dials for little awhile -- you might find that those 18" wheels are too rough or have other fitment issues (plus, you still need to buy summer tires, no?). It's not like 15" phone dials are in high demand anyways...

I won't off the PDs until I make absolutely sure that the Twists are the best option. I just figured that $250 shipped would be a fair price for some looking for the late offsets. Thanks.
