Beer will definitely solve the problem, if not I always go for the Crown, the everything is better! Disclaimer: Use caution when working on 944's and partaking in the liquid! Scott.

AHHH thanks to Red 944, the plot thickens. After consulting my PET it appears that the headlight setup for a US 944 and the setup for the Rest Of World is entirely different. Could you post a pic of the ROW headlight for us RED 944?
It seems that Porsche did make changes to the headlights for different markets Ice Sharks reply must have been referring to the US market only. Anyhow either way it looks like i'm stuck with incompatible headlights

Red, That diagram is sort of OK if you already know what you are talking about. But I don't think PCMAX does and is flopping around in deep water.
For example the retaining bezel ring is between the headlight lens and the frame rather than showing it is supposed to hold the lens to the frame. If I didn't know how it actually works I'd be confused like PCMAX is.
I think PCMAX needs to get to know some local people with 7" round headlights and/or hook up with Glen C. in his own town of Sydney. I'd fly over and sort it out and then do some diving but I don't think he would like the airfare charge.
EDIT: PCMAX, ROW or NORTH AMERICA are all basically the same. You have the same standard 7" headlight to hold in. They may have different beam patterns but they are all the same to install and hold down. All the same. This has been a world wide standard design back longer than I have been alive.

But where is the outside bezel ring that secures the lens to the housing hardware? There are 3 tabs with screws and I should see at least one of them from your topside view and I don't. You haven't posted a full frontal face view and we should see the bezel ring and all 3 attachment screws.

I was in Brisbane a few weeks ago. I work in the truck manufacturing industry. Coincidentally, I learnt that all our Aussie trucks use the same 7" H4 headlamps that we put on our 944s. I met with the Aussie Hella rep. Let me know if you need me to hook you up with him to see if he can help you with any questions.
(Sidenote: I'd just installed IceShark's Cibie H4 lens, and they work like a charm. IceShark mentioned that they work better than the Hella lenses).

I am sure of what i'm talking about. If someone could go to their PET and post a pic of the headlight setup for the ROW you would be able to see that there ARE some major differences despite what Iceshark is saying.

pcmax, just saw this post, have never pulled my lights out, but you are more than welcome to come and look at mine. I have an 86 and a 90 so both ends of the spectrum are covered, though both are 951 but I would imagine the lights are the same. I am at Neutral Bay.

Thanks guys, all is now clear after the pic posted by AGC.
That is the same configuration as my light. It looks like Porsche DID have more than one design for headlight installation.
I might have to have my friend in LA get me the US headlight mounts from a breaker and send them on down.
I'm still a little curious as to why Porsche have 2 different configurations though unless it's some sort of legal requirement somewhere in the world.
Anyone have any clues??

Hugh,
While OZ is a LHLane driving country that wouldn't explain it. The lenses just get changed on the beam pattern for the LH v RH countries.
There must be something else unusual going on, which makes no sense. I don't know, OZ also had the normal brake light (the two inboard upper and lower lenses) a dead light. One reason Glen got the light sockets I had so he could light them up.

Ice Shark,
I have also modified my brake lights so that both the inboard entire section and the outboard lower section light up when I stand on the brakes. The reason the cars were delivered here with only the outboard lower section illuminated for brakes is due to some ridiculous regulation that states that you can't have more that 3 brake light panels illuminated.
Most newer vehicles have one each side and one in the rear window or built into the rear spoiler.
It seems crazy to restrict the amount/size of brake lights, my opinion is the more the better if it's going to stop someone from rear ending me.
