All places require 1st month rent plus 1/2 months rent (damage deposit) immediatley before moving into the place.

Some places also require you to sign a "pseudo lease" which means they want you to write out the first 6months or 12months rent cheques. It's no big deal as you can simply cancel the cheques if you move out earlier.

Mom says no vacancies yet for March. (but you never know people sometimes don't leave 1 mo notice...)

BTW the address is not 3000 West 6th Ave, but it's pretty close.

Thanks man, got it....

So on a rent of $1000 I would pay $1000 + $500 for $1500 total up front on March 1st for example and than $1000 every month thereafter on the 1st, and I get the $500 back when I move out etc.

What are the rent costs at your place? Whats a stay at the hotel you work for go for per night, in case I need to stay for a few days until I can find a place...

Thanks so much buddy appreciate it.

Friends and family rate is $83 bucks per night. Seems pretty expensive, but you gotta remember we usually charge $180-300 per night.

And like I said, if you need to store ****, provided it's not a huge couch or wall cabinet.. I can help you out.

Looks like the others gave you some pretty good info already. I'd second the idea of NOT driving across the rockies when there is even a chance of snow on them. You could easily find yourself in a possition where you can't get up the next hill, and can't go back up the way you just came either...

As Rich said, it seems pretty normal to get asked for first months rent and 50% extra for a damage deposit. I don't think they're actually allowed to ask for first and last anymore.

You can drive the Porsche all year round here, I do. The only caveat is that you might want to get a set of winter tires for that odd day that it does actually snow, or you want to go to Whistler.

Some of the best driving you can find in the area is on highway 99, otherwise known as the sea to sky highway. It starts at the ocean and goes all the way up to Whistler. It's a great drive along the cliffs with a fantastic view of the ocean. Lots of windy parts to fully take advantage of the great handling of your Porsche.

Hook up with the local PCA, they do weekend runs up to Whistler and a bunch of autocross and technical nights, you'll have fun.

As far as where to live, look for something close to the skytrain. It can get you downtown in no time at all. There is a stop quite close to where you'll be working in the downtown core. I'd check out the Burnaby area for some inexpensive apts. next to the skytrain. They'd run you around $800/month for a 2 bedroom.

Good Luck!

I feel sorry for you. We were complaining when we got 30 cm a couple of weeks ago.

Rich, where did you find your Saratoga?
