Default Grrrrrr, car break-ins

My brother just came home from highschool with a broken rear window on his '93 sentra se-r. The stupid criminal wasn't even capable enough to remove the head unit, so instead they destroyed the face and stole some speakers and an emergency kit.

The local glass stores want $250 for the rear driver's side window. Does anyone know of any cheaper sources? Also how easy would it be to install the window?

try the junkyards. Is the car a 4 door? If it is it's a hell of lot easier to replace, and you could proabably do it yourself. After you get the glass just go to a local glass shop, they charge like 50 bucks to put it in.

I can relate. My daily driver (Honda Civic) was broken into two weeks ago, right in front of my house. They smashed the rear vent glass, ransacked my glove compartment and went through everything else. They took nothing from the trunk and my faceplate and radio bezel were both found on the passenger floorboard unmolested. I'm assuming since the driver's seat was all the way down that they attempted to remove the head unit but probably got scared off.

The cheapest local glass shop wanted $190 for a replacement window (parts and labor). I located a salvage yard in Virginia that had the window for $25. It took about 30 minutes to figure out how to pop the new one in the frame.

My suggestion is to post something on the Sentra boards and find out where other people have obtained their parts. That's what I did with my Civic.

Good luck

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it is a 2 door. I'll try the local salvage yards and I'll also pm Geo. I was able to replace the rear window on my mom's Nissan truck, so hopefully the sentra window will be an easy install.

What infuriates me is that my mom's truck was broken into last year just a block away from this location. They got away with its 10 yr old head unit(only worked half the time) and left blood on the passenger seat. Grrrr.

Hey, get your brother on the SE-R Mailing List. I can give you the home page if needed. There are a bunch of SE-R owners on the mailing list in Atlanta, including a really good friend of mine.

Yeah, he is a member of http://www.nissanforums.com/, but I don't think that he knows of the SE-R mailing list. If you could give me its homepage, I'll pass it along to him.
We are now just waiting to hear back from some local salvage yards. If they don't have any, then we know of one on ebay for $25.

My Porsche was broken into a couple nights ago. Stole the CD player, CD's and my work apron, but left my radar detector, camera bag, ski rack, and $250.00 snowboarding coat. the bastards also broke my climate control panel and maybe even the mounts for the CD player in the center console. So, I went to Dart Auto here in Denver (it's a Porsche grave-yard) and bought a new window for $25.00 and installed it myself. I had an alarm installed today, and as for the stereo, well, that'll have to wait until I get my tax return. Luckily I backed up all of my CD's on my trusty computer. so I just need a stack of blank CD's and time and that's back.

I DID park under 2 street lights. so that helps nothing. I can also blame myself, (which I don't like to do) because I didn't remove the faceplate of my CD player. I was the 15th hit in 2 weeks. I think as of today, it's 17. Security at my school has been stepped up and the Police are involved. so yeah.
