Has Anyone Pulled The Crankshaft Girdle Alignment Sleeve?
Hello,
I need to replace the crankshaft girdle alignment sleeve in my block as it was damaged by the shop that did my machine work (or their associates that did the Nikasil plating). It's Porsche pt# 928 101 195 03. If this were an iron block I'd just crush it inward until the fit was loose enough that it fell out. In an aluminum block I'd think there's a real risk of cracking the block. If you've done this, how did you go about it? JB Weld an eye bolt in it and use a slide hammer? Dremel it? I'd appreciate your suggestions.
Thank you,
Rick

Give it lots of heat, the alu will expand more and ease extraction. Then use a bearing puller.
You could also cut it with an open end saw blade but it’s nearly impossible not to cut into the „hub“ surface.

I got queasy blasting it with a propane torch, and ended up cutting it out with a Dremel. I did put a very small mark down the length of the bushing, but it shouldn't cause any issues as there's no seal formed by it. I'll probably end up making my own replacement as I'm unable to find anything close enough to work,

Performance Developments should have them.
They offer a service of multi doweling the crank/girdle.
Check their webstite for the server and substitute 'Taylor@' , he should be able to help you out.
IIRC Lindsey might have a similar machine shop option, try them too.

We machine an aluminum bar to be the exact ID of the alignment bushing, then tap it in. Then heat the area around the sleeve with a torch, and you can clamp on the outer sleeve pretty hard now without damage.
I'm sorry if the block arrived with that buggered up. Now you can clamp on it direct and heat the area - you should be able to worry it back n' forth till it slides out. .

I was told small stuff like that didn't need to come out. It wasn't effected by the plating process at all. It was dented somehow. I tried to massage it back to shape, but quickly discovered that wasn't going to work. I have it out now. I just need to come up with a replacement. I actually got a 15mm stainless tube from McMaster Carr, but the OD is about. 0005" less than what you'd want for the right fit. So close, but so far away!

After everything is set into place Toss the oil pump housing in the front to make sure the front of the girdle is flat and true with the block, then lock the girdle down It makes a nice Guide when assembling..

Lemme see if I can get one out easily.
If so, I'll send you one.
I have a half dozen blocks torn down in various stages of preparation for race builds.
Going on a road trip Fri-Sun out of state to look at some property so it might be early next week if I can't pull it off before tomorrow.

BTW - to save me the trouble, what's the part #....?
Jon Shuerich at NOLA Sport used to be a parts manager for Crescent City, he's a parts hound and might be able to find some left undiscovered.
