Im unsure if QA1 makes any struts? If so I doubt that they have a 944 specific part, but they might... DMS is not so good either.... They are pretty much copies of bilstein with an adjustable rod that is NOT that adjustable...the 50's are not worth the money...I have no experiance with the 40's ........... There is nothing wrong with mixin and matching shocks as long as the damping curves are in the right area......

Im sorry I dog SO many companys but I have tested so many and seen the results on the dyno...

even worse are the ground control Advanced Design......
No adjustment at all with the ***** (placibo effect i guess)

Man those DMS shocks are as much as my base price of my car and Konis are right up there too. I need to make my self more clear. I am looking for a rear coil overto act as a helper for everyday street driving. Racersedge-inc.com has LEDA shocks for $570.00 shipping included or $700 (with the adjustment ****)
www.klaindustries.net has them for $560.00 (still kicking my self for not getting them on sale for $420 at Christmas)
This is the price range I am looking for. Nothing super or fancy just something to help that I can bolt on and dont have to spend all weekend changing out like the tortion bars.
To be honest I would really like to stumbel on that used set that maybe even needed to be rebuilt.

Skip your 2 cents is always very much appreciated!

The bilstein cup car rears are about 200.00 each....
Then you need springs for about 45.00 each so that pretty cheap
and you get a choice of 2 valving both of which are too stiff for your stock fronts......bilstein cup struts are 400.00 each

try

yes they do have a different mount. Early fit into a cup on the lower mount and late just have a bolot going into the alum. swing arm.

How do they mount differently? Are the early shocks skinnier or wider at the bottom to fill out the cup? If they were wider than the late shocks, couldn't you just use some spacers or washers or something?

Larry, thanks for the frank advice about the DMS shocks. They came with the car from the previous owner, and I quite like them, but do you mean they aren't that great to buy if you had cash in your pocket today to make an informed choice of whats on the market or that you would take them off a car they were already on? Thanks for the info, I appreciate from someone in the business.

ps I assume they are expensive from Super Dave's reply

They are fine to have on the car.... But if I was planing on spending 3-4k on a suspension setup I would buy JRZ or protrac...... There adjustment range TOWERS over the dms.....

Many Many rallieist use dsm with much sucsess...... Its not that they dont make good forces, just the adjusters do very little to the shocks curve................. Also they have very linear curves which is not ideal for a road race car................

you can buy 3 sets of bilstein cup car shocks for the same price and have the same adjustment range.....

best of luck

The ealy 944 rear coilover set up requires 1.87" springs (inch and 7/8) due to clearance problems with the lower shock mount bucket. And with that you also have to modify the bucket a bit to avoid having the spring rub.

I have a barely used, rear bilstein coilover shock set up for early 944 available if any one is looking...
