1986 944, Phone Dials. Correct Wheel and Tire Sizes
Buddy's son just purchased a 1986 944 with Phone Dials. What are the correct wheel and tire sizes for that year/model? Were there any options on sizes?
TIA for accurate answers.

What size rims do you have on it ?
Stock fitments will be on your door jamb sticker or in the owner's manual.
Those stock fitments are:
If they are 15 inch, you need -
215 x 60 x 15
If they are 16 inch, either phone dial or FUCHS wheels, you need -
225 x 55 x 16

16 inch wheels were an option in both styles of FUCHS and in both sizes of Phone dials and could be had in staggered sizing of the 16s.
The Monroney window sticker shows this '86 to be optioned with FUCHS 16s

So the tire sizes on the car are:
Front-205/55/r16
Rear-225/50/r16
Front-205/55/r16
Rear-225/50/r16

The car may have been optioned with 16" turbo phone dials based on the above stated tire sizes and DLarsen in the following thread:

The staggered 7 and 8 x 16 Phone dials were standard equipment on the 1988 Jubilee / Celebration 944 N/A. They are on my Satin Black Metallic '88 ( from the factory ) and have been on every Zermatt or Black J/C I have seen.
Except one:
It was wearing a set of 8 inch BBS silver mesh aftermarket wheels after some enterprising seller sold the staggers off to someone who was needing them for an extra set for his race car.
Ending that J/C cars matched set of wheels proper fitment of phone dials, date coded to it's build.
Earlier on in the series two body changeover, one could have any wheel from Porsche one wanted, by ordering over the counter in the parts dept. at the Porsche Dealership. The turbos were already out and they came with both seven and eight inch 16s. ( as well as the super uncommon 15s. ) Other items off the turbo could be had on the n/a, including the rear diffuser. And the pie plate or 7 slot FUCHS wheels....
One car I remember coming into our local dealership in the mid '80s, was a fully loaded up N/A ordered by a gentleman who wanted the 944 not a 951, because of a bad experience he had already had with a 931 ( 924 turbo. )
That car was a full leather interior ( lower dash, rear seats, door cards, and sport front seats with facings, sides, and backing in leather. He liked the lower black plastic side skirts on the turbo, so those were added at the factory, the rear diffuser was added, it had 7 and 8 by 16 Phone dials with hand painted center caps, and curiously, had the 944 logo delete on the rear of the car. It looked just like a 951 but had the big metal bumpers, not the smooth plastic nose.
It was the most expensive 944 normal I had ever seen arrive there, and actually eclipsed the retail price of a base 951 turbo in '87.
I often wonder what ever became of that Kalahari Metallic normal. It was certainly one of a kind.

I forgot to add,
the Alpine White 944 normal in my profile pic, also came with staggered 16s ( 7 and 8s ) from the factory. They show on that Monroney window sticker I posted above as a 1201.00 dollar option and are listed as : 16 inch Forged Alloy wheels.
But as a part of the decoded 'I82 Option' for Touring Package, they are shown as 7 and 8 inch 16 color matched FUCHS in Grand Prix White, with handpainted ( at the factory ) center caps. There were about a dozen items grouped or bundled together in that option and included such things as Full leather Sport Seats, Rear wiper, Sunroof, Stereo, Sport Steering wheel, heated washer nozzles, etc.......
I notice the photo on that work shop manual appears to picture 8 x 16 inch wheels with wider outside lip, yet does not mention it in the caption.
More things that make a guy go, "huh" ?
