Default best tire size for a stock 944

I own a 1985.5 944 which is stock. the back tires are toast but i was looking for tires for replacing them and there are only a small amount of options. Im not looking for anything crazy but i do like spirited drives. i did some searches and saw that 215/60/15 the stock size. is there a better setup/option if i want all the tires the same size? will 225/60/15 rub?

225 won't rub but you need a lower profile than 60 to maintain the stock height, balance and speedometer readings.

Go to a site like this and put your stock sizes in then find a wider tire size that maintains the same overall height with a lower profile:

When I purchased my 86 NA new, it came with the 15" phone dial rims. After about a few years or so, I purchased used 86 turbo size 16" phone dials (8" wide in rear and 7" wide in front).

For many years, I used 225/50R16's all around (lets me rotate the tires front to rear) and recently put 225/50R16's in the rear and 205/55R16's in the front.

i have a 924 turbo and i used 225/45/17 on the fronts and 245/40/17 on the rears. That made the car feel on rails but quite heavy. I've recently went for 225/45/17 all around and my god this car is fun to drive. My advice: if you want the looks, get fat tires on the fronts and really fat on the rears but expect the car to feel heavy. If you want to have fun and drive the car alot, keep under 225 tires....oh..and get premium tires.

I put 17" Cayman wheels in place of the 15's that were on the car. I had questions about tire diameter and width and used the research tool at TireRack. I recommend them highly for research, purchase, reviews and delivery (they'll send the tires to a shop near you for mounting).
