Default Transmission Noise, abby-normal

Ok, my transmission is making a strange 'chirping' noise.

Listen:

MP3 format or MP4 video

Crazy, huh?

The sound is there under these conditions

Car stationary and transmission in neutral - chirp! Press down on clutch, noise goes away.
Car moving and transmission 'unloaded' (not accelerating or decelerating) - chirp!
Car moving and clutch pressed down - chirp! Stops when car coasts to halt.

During normal driving, there is no noise.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Likely a bearing that is causing the problem. If you try the test again after undoing the coupler between the transmission mainshaft and torque tube shaft, it will let you get some confidence as to where the offending bearing is.

How many miles on the transmission? Any other complaints?

I thought it might be a bearing.

But why would the noise go away when the transmission is under load?
The slightest load and no chirping. A noisy bearing should be noisy all the time.

hmmmm...

Not sure, but different bearings will make noises under different conditions. Perhaps it has to do with shift the contact patch under load.

Well it's not a gif, but....

Let my mechanic 'Abbie-Abnormal' help with that by listening and giving some friendly advice....

If she appears a "bit too dangerous", let me assure you she's locked and loaded.

If something is causing an audible warning, she's
ready to dispatch any feral vermin if needed

I really can't help with the transmission noise thing, but I applaud any Young Frankenstein reference. Well played sir, well played.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and watch the scene where Madeline Kahn arrives unexpectedly at the castle…
