Default Converting 84 auto to 5-speed.

I got another 84 last week that is a automatic. The dampner has gone bad in it. After pricing and hearing horrow stories about the dampner, I decided to take the tranny, tourqe tube, clutch and all of the compents out of the euro that I'm parting out and put it in the 84. If anyone else has done this, let me know some of any suprises that you guys ran into. The parts that I know that I will have to change
tranny
central tube
shifter rod
slave cylinder
master cylinder
clutch hoses
flywheel
clutch of course
and wiring the park and neutral switch together.
The euro has a good running drive train, so I know all of the parts are good. To change the dampner, I was going to have to take it down like a clutch job, just decided to go futher and take the tourque tube out and change it all. I will take some pics and keep everyone posted.
Oh ya, if anyone needs a good automatic, let me know

Not to get off subject but did NE one ever think of getting a junker that had a good drive train and just using its parts with a new clutch. I think it could be done for under 2K.

Robby, you are refering to swapping the transmissions from auto to manual? I have been 'not activley' looking around for an entire manual transmission to swap for my auto 924S. Many would question if its worth the time and money to do so. I would be able to do the job for just the price of parts with the help at my fathers garage. Either that or buying a manual 944/951. Not sure what to do at the moment.

With all the cars with T-belts that went bad a 944 can be had for 500- 1300 with all the parts all ready in one place, and what ever you dont use u can part out. I was thinking of doing the same thing, just for me though,I am not too worried about selling my car with the auto its in good enough condition with the turbo front and GT rear that people many times have been able to over look the auto fact just not true 944 crowd. Suits my needs well enough but would love to put a 5 speed in a car that is as good as mine.

disconnect the cooling tubes...the axle half-shafts and the console are different...hmmm, might just be one half-shaft that's a different length...dunno

there is a circlip in front of the rubber dampner you need to remove before the drive shaft can come out

see item 25:

stuff for the clutch pedal:

oh, and add a pilot bearing to the list

Start calling all of the P-shops in your area. About half of them have a 944 sitting around that the owner has abandoned or has not made up their mind about fixing the engine. Could even know of one that has been towed home by the owner.

Got a 944 auto that had an engine fire for $500. The rims alone are worth the $500. I put the engine in the 83 as well as the seats and rear hatch. Gave away the auto trans.

I got the euro real pretty cheap. Good drive train, but the body had more dented panels than straight, plus it was rotten from the inside out.
