Default checked archives-flywheel ?

Recently I've experienced difficulty in shifting, I have the original rubber center clutch. I called my old shop about it, they said that if I wanted to switch to the spring centered clutch, I'd have to get a new flywheel because the six springs in the clutch hit the old flywheel. Checked with Paragon and they said no, you don't need a new flywheel. Will someone confirm this? Also, what have others spent timewise on clutch replacement(including main seal etc.) Thanks.

From my experience this is untrue, unless you're fitting a turbo clutch which is incorrect for the car regardless. I've switched from a rubber-centered to a spring-centered clutch in my 83 and the only important precaution to take regarding the flywheel is to have it resurfaced.

Laborwise, on an early NA a standard reference is 8-10 hours, depending on mechanical experience, etc.

Paragon is correct, the springs won't hit the flywheel (unless maybe you put the disk in backwards). Maybe you should look into a new shop.

Does this shop do a side biz in flywheels? The spring disc will fit fine.

Thanks for your responses. I suspected the shop of some creative quotes and dubious work when I recently did my waterpump and found they had shoe-horned my thermostat into the pump incorrectly!! No excuse for that stuff with the amount I was paying. BTW-Thanks to rennlist I did my H2O pump without too much heartache and now I'll be doing my clutch!! Thanks again.

They may have been referring to swapping out to the Turbo clutch, but that doesn't really make sense either as they are different diameters. You do not need a new/different flywheel to run the updated 944 spring centered clutch.

[edit] That's what I get for not refreshing the page before posting - already answered above... I'm just pig-piling now.

Yep, and I'll add on!

Bought the spring-centered clutch from paragon, installed it and it's been working fine without problems. 'Cept is squels like a pig when I first start and it's really cold out, below zero.

Sure that's not the throw out bearing making the noise?

Maybe? It's only happened twice, and it happens when I disengage the clutch....yeah, I guess that would make more sense. So what's wrong, I installed a new one (every part of the clutch assembly was replaced).
