Timing belt/head repair
Well, Ive got the exhaust and intake manifolds off now and Im about to remove the head, but I have a few questions.
1. Can you tell if the valves are bent without pulling the head off? The intake valves look alright, and from what I can feel of the exhaust valves, theyre ok also.
2. Is it necessary to remove the thermostat to further drain coolant like it says in the WORTHLESS haynes manual? I drained from the radiator drain plug, then the radiator hose, then the engine block drain plug, then the front part of the cabin heater hose... can there be any more coolant in the engine?
Hopefully I'll actually pull the head and order the parts later tonight, maybe get the car back on the road next weekend. Also, anyone else who has done this before have any tips for a first timer?
Thanks,
Robert

It shouldn't have coolant left. A compression check would be good to do but it sounds line you have your cam off already. You might as well just remove the cylinder head only 10 bolts since you did all this might as well change the seals/head gasket and the valve guides.
