Hey, is the bulb behind the A/C switch replacable? Mine doesn't light up when my AC is on...?

Hmm, yes if replacing the switch is indeed an option, it is far better than jerry rigging something. I think I may replace my AC switch as well =)

When I bought my car, the PO had wired up a toggle switch from Radio Shack and installed it in the glove box. Uhg! It was the first repair I ever made on the car, and I did it without all the help and pictures now available. The switch is a separate part on later year 944's. If you can figure out how to wire up a toggle switch, you can figure out how to replace the snowflake button. It's a Porsche, not a rusty Pontiac. Get the switch and do it right. The Porshce Gods will reward you in the long run.

Default Ah, old thread = new knowledge!

This is great info (including photos) showing me I HAVE to replace the whole switch instead of trying to put the snowflake cap back on!

I'll be ordering one from one of the Porsche parts places pronto!!

Hope I can de-solder the old switch without messing up the unit!

For those of you that are interested, This switch can be easily repaired. I did this repair a few years back and my memory is a bit foggy as to the details. If I remember correcly, I found a piece of music wire the same diameter as the broken plastic pin (hobby store), then I carefully drilled a hole slightly smaller than the wire in the switch body in the exact position of the broken pin, not too deep as there may be electrical contacts inside the plastic (maybe 1/8" or less). Then just cut a short piece of wire and push it into the hole, trim any excess wire with a dremel, slide the little white plastic ratchet on the pin and check that it spins freely. Voila!, it "should" work much the same way as a retractable ball point pen works.
Good luck,
