Default 951 chip question...

Hey Blokes,

I've got a 951 (actually its a 952 its rhd) that has had some repairs done to it to bring it back to stock. Only instead of getting the standard turbo timer my mechanic had to get an aftermarket boost controller...now, when I'm at full throttle in third gear my car backs off and splutters and carries on and so on. This happened before I got the car repaired and he said it was because the timing was out and the timer was broken and so were some turbo vaccum hoses and so on. Now he set the boost at around 1 bar, I understand the standard boost is around that anyway. SO! What I think might be going on and I'm hoping someone here can clarify or correct me on this is that maybe its getting too much boost and the chip is picking this up and backs off the throttle completely to prevent damage to the engine??

What else could it be? Chip faulty? boost controller daggy?

I'd appreciate anyones help on this!

Thanks in advance blokes!

There is a safety over-boost cut off switch that comes on at around 5,600. The stock bar should read 1.7-1.75 bar (what thee boost is reading on the dash).then reduces to 1.5 when reaching 5,600 and above. The stock tubo runs on 11psi (around .7 bar) Chips remove this and increase boost to 14-15psi and keep it on all the way.

Yes, too much boost. Dial back the controller to 12psi or so... Check out the dyno-charts on chip-upgrades in the GURU Racing Forums. How about +60hp in a TurboS?

Hi Heath,

If you are interested you can get Danno's chips in the UK from Andrew Sweetenham at ProMax Motorsport. There are a number of us using them over here and they do make a significant difference.

Andrew also supplies the Boost Enhancer so you might get a rebate on an exchange.

Danno,

Good to see you are "Back in the Saddle" again.

Regards,

John
