I guess since we're on the subject of wheels (forgive me if we've gone off topic), does anyone have a good and cheap source for wheels that would fit the bolt pattern for the manhole covers? Maybe some crappy steel or cast alloys I could mount on my parts car while I sent the wheels out for converting to the CS wheels? I'm in earthquake country here and the idea of leaving the car on jack stands for any length of time gives me the *******.

How about going down to your local lumber yard or big box store and buying a six by six post and having it cut down to 4 - 16 inch lengths. Lay them on the ground and drop the car down on the frame rails and under the rear shock mounts.
After you get the wheels back you can continue to use the six by six posts on either the ends or their side for stabilizing the car when working on it. I use them all the time at the track and in the shop..... never an issue. If you worry about the wood splitting, bolt a plate of steel on one side and rest the car on that. Then on the side next to it, a screwed in drawer pull for a quick and easy handle in which to carry them.

OR, you could go down to your local pick and pull and buy some of those inflatable 944 spare wheels that seem to have no use..... the steel or aluminum ones made by Vredestein and have the same branded rubber on them. The ones that may be tough to find are the 16 inch aluminum ones out of the turbos, as folks are buying them and using them to refit to modded early Porsches.

Get beat up boxster rims. The fronts are 7" I think and not mane people want them.

Didn't cars like Morgan have wood frames? A friend with a 356 told me the 16" spares are in high demand by 356 owners. Will the 15 fit over S2 brakes? I bought a boxster spare for my Cayman S. Im told it will fit the front. If I get a flat in the back, move the front tire to the back, put the spare on the front, put the back in the passenger seat, a call a cab for your passenger who will never speak to you again, or file for divorce the next day if raining.

I think this is the best suggestion for me, I hadn't thought of the spares. Good plan. I do want to be able to roll the car around in the shop so this is better than the 6x6 proposal, though I also think that would probably sooth my anxiety over jack stands and earthquakes.

I took a quick look though and the inflatable spares I see on the web aren't all that cheap. Pick and Pull might fix that .

Just a thought, but Porsche isn't the only one using a 5x130 bolt pattern.

VW, Audi, even Suzuki use it.

I think a VW spare would work. Those are cheap & plentiful.

I know the FUCHS wheel from a 1990 Quattro 200 turbo will not....

had one off my Audi leaning against the garage wall, tried it and no go.

Front wheel drive and Quattro drive fitments must be different than for rear wheel drive Porsches

I have a Audi wheel from my wife's 1999 A4 Turbo leaning against the wall right now. Never thought of trying it.

Audi Quattro Fuchs (same as 5000/200) size (15x7) are 5x112 with 57.1 center bore and ET 45

Just wanted to second this... coming from a 380hp 951 I actually enjoy driving the 944S around town as much maybe even more. I know it’s the red headed step child of the 944 lineup but I’d rather have the S than a base 944, 40hp is 40hp lol. When the cams kick in it really makes it a fun car to drive around town and the low end is def better on the NA than my turbo was. I’m sure the OP already made a decision but just wanted to put another opinion in the game.

British magazines I think since the LUX was their standard model. Notice the pictured car is a EURO model.

It was in the 911 & Porsche World magazine, a Lux is a base model 944 in the UK. Thing is the difference between the base 944 and the 944S is swayed in the US as the US 944’s were way down on power and performance compared the Euro models.
