Placing torque converter back in automatic transmission
I really hope somebody can help me out with this one. I am getting ready to reinstall my automatic transmission, but had taken out the torque converter at some point. So now I am trying to get the thing back in it's place but it ends up looking like this:
It will wiggle a little bit, but it feels like its in place.
I know the gap between the tip of the torque converter and the transmission casing has to be about 10 mm:
So after reading this, I tried to push in the pump shaft further, but it wont move any further. This is how it looks behind the torque converter:
All help is appreciated!

2 sets of splines to line up, then the final things are the drive tangs for the oil pump. It must go all the way in!
Many a front pump has been destroyed by the mechanic torquing the trans down that last 3/8".

It will wiggle even when fully installed.
Basically, it's the weight of the converter hanging that makes it seem loose.
Same reason you want to take care to not tighten on of the bolts until all bolt pads are flat and flush with the bolting surface, alternate snugging and keep spinning converter to ensure there is no wobble when fully bolted up.
While installing the trans, just keep awareness to keep spin checking the converter as you tighten the bell housing bolts.
If it turns freely all the way until you have a few bell houysing bolts tight, you are fine.

Thanks for the reply guys, I kept patient while trying to get it in and eventually it made the final thud. Checked it with the ruler and the tip of the converter was exactly 10mm below the transmission casing. So, feeling pretty confident, I went on and installed the trans. TC spun freely after being installed. All is well now!
