Default vacuum leaks

what do you guys use to correct vacuum leaks? recently i saw a post that stated the hard lines being loose in a rubber elbow, but cant find the post, or any other answers in the search. is there maybe a glue to use? one guy said he went to napa and bought new elbows and lines, is this the only way? i have the 1200 idle that the first guy i mentioned fixxed. and i have the shudder that drops the idle to 800 when the car warms up.

Check your throttle switch. Might need cleaning and reseting.

Vacuum leaks in the large hose that runs to and from the idle valve. The early valve is a heated bi-metalic spring that closes off the bypass air to the intake.

The shutter is from an improperly set TPS or a bad DME program. Think www.frwilk.com has a chip that will correct this.

i thought that chip was only to correct the revs from dipping down when letting off the throttle.............. what mine does is: start car, idles high, warms up, starts to wander from 1200 to 800 dips down and sounds like it wants to shut off. so the valve you are talking about would be in the iac? or aav? not sure what you guys call the cold start.

Vacuum leaks can be located by spraying carb cleaner around suspect areas and listening for a change in speed from the engine as it injests extra hydrocarbons.

I am chasing too rich cold idle and rich operating mixture. I am starting with Ice Sharks neg cable kit to ensure good engine grounds before I start replacing sensors and ISV.

If you were to find a leak with the carb cleaner method the repair would depend on what and where you found the problem.

so the auxiliary air valve? right? i bought a new one, but was trying to figure out how to get it on without taking the intake off.

You might be able to snake it out by taking the throttle body, air intake bellows and related hoses. Hard to reach the hose clamps and undo the 10mm heads that hold the valve on. You can test it for leaking by pinching the vacuum line between the valve and intake manifold. If the rpm drops down to normal 750 from ???? at full engine operating temp then the valve is leaking. Checking for vac leaks, I use propane to sniff around vacuum hoses and connections, if the O2 values start going up or the engine stumbles or rises in engine rpm then you can suspect a vac leak close by.
