Talking Just bought a TII!

Yes, I made a jump to turbocharged cars, but it wasn't a 951

Actually, I bought an 1988 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II, black on grey leather, with about 20k miles on a rebuilt engine. The car needs a very small body work on the top nose, but everything seems to be in good shape. All electrical components work in the car including windows, locks, security, rear wiper, etc.. which is a good sign that I won't have to deal with electrical problems for a while. The guy was pretty honest in pointing out problems. It has a brand new centerforce stage 2 clutch with a couple other mods including dual stage boost controller, aftermarket guages, pulleys, FD fuel pump, suspension, exhaust, msd ignition, and a couple more things. The car started great in the cold weather, and than we took it out for a test drive and the car has some great power. I would have rather went with a 951, but I'm going to keep this for a couple months until I find a decent 951 in the market. I was looking for a nice turbocharged daily driver, but I stumbled on this and bought it for $3000. It's running rich, but atleast its better than lean. Car usually runs between 8-10psi on the street switch, and 10-12psi on the racing switch. Hopefully I won't see any problems for A VERY LONG TIME (knock on wood).

Wow that's cool man, I've always liked those cars...definitely one I would consider, though I haven't heard how reliable they are, or if they have any huge problems...I prefer the last generation rx-7 but they are hard to find in good shape and still expensive..

v994god - have the TPS adjusted, it is probably the reason for the rich condition. Does the idle go up and down, or where does it idle? I happen to have presently 2 RX-7s and have had as many as 4 at one time! Good cars but in the end I came back to the Porsche too.

The RX-7 Gen II is about the closest you can come to a 944 in terms of body style.

Nice catch!

It's something nice to drive for now, until I move to a 951, but I can't complain.

I'll post the pictures of the car as soon as I buy a digital camera this week. The idle stays constant, but the timing makes it sound rich. Maybee when I get some free time I'm going to be able to auto-x it.

V944God: It would be great to see you out at an autocross! First tentative date with the Porsche club is: April 27 (Sunday) at the Meadowlands Parking lot. Hope to see you there!

The RXs use a cold start injector setup and the idle will tend to be high for the first few seconds.

These engines usually start better in the cold, but the way the timing of the engine is running it seems the ECU and fuel mods are making it run rich.

Enlighten us as to what those mods are. I would love to know what all they have done to it.

I love the 2nd gen RX-7's and have owned 16 Total, 4 Turbo II's...Usually with mods, they will run lean...It might smell rich because your exhaust mods have deleted the cat so it will smell strong...

Great reliable cars!

Here is a tip...If someone is tailgaiting you or ready to bump you at a stop light, the exhaust from a Rotory is so hot, you can rev your motor & almost melt the car behind you!
ha ha...
