Is a gated shifter rice?
#3
I voted yes, because IMO its more bling bling crap that has no effect on improving performance... if anything it makes it worse... For anyone here who has driven a Ferrari, they are pretty tough with those gates....

i wouldnt necessarily say its rice....more like spagetti. i voted no because once i swap the trans (to a T56) in the tr7 i'm gonna put a gated shifter on it. i dont think it would fit the motief (sp?) of the 80's german interior (klaus makenz it faster...za interior aahh plain n black). i agree w/ the gated shifter being clumbsy, although i've never driven a ferrari i have had the luck of driving a pantera w/ a gated shifter (remember thats attached to a german trans too) and it wasnt something you rifle through the gears in. i dont think ferrrari put gates on their challenge version of cars...that should say something about the degradation in performance.
EDIT: btw if i owned an atricite gray 968 this would be my shifter (porsche 996/986 tequipment cf shifter)...or if anyone has found this shifter in a 5 speed pattern let me know.

so........none of you guys bought the 944/968/924 with one of the decision making points being looks? how about putting 18s on a 944 when supposedly the limit is 17, i bet most do it for looks even if it is 17s.

I would definitely not call it rice. This may sound queer to some who don't understand, but I like exploring the relationship between the what the shifter is and its context in the cabin. I would eliminate the shift pattern on the *** by replacing it with the Porsche crest and have the gears machined into the surface of the gate. Rice isn't what you do, its how you do it.

Redlyne_mr2 i agree.
The reason i got this car is because the timeless design. Its just a good looking car. Sure you can get a lot of nice cars now, my wife has a CTS and the design on that car is pretty nice in my book but cant compare that car to my car. Its like comparing apples to oranges. I am about to spend some money on my car but i will not spend money on changing things around such as the gatet shifter, bling bling wheels and etc just to make the timeless look disappear. Im trying to keep my car as stock/original looking as possible excluding the wheels and the fibreworks bumper. But interior wise i will look for a original new shifter or possibly something from another Porsche such as a boxter. I guess what im trying to say is if you want to buy nick nacks for the car and take away that 80's sportscar look then i would buy a honda or a nissan and get that stuff for it. Keep your Porsche as original looking as possible.
