How do you downsize a pic to use as an avatar?

How do you attach an avatar, and how do you resize it? Do you use Photoshop or like program for resizing?

im using a shareware, unfortunately, it puts the little logo, see ?

You can just use Paint. Go to Image --> resize --> then just make the percentages smaller.
