WTB: 86 windshield in Florida
The title says it all. I need an 86 or later windshield in Florida somewhere. Anyone got a parts car laying around with a good one?

In FL, if you have full coverage insurance on your car, the insurance co. HAS to replace your windshield w/o charging deductible. If you're insured, you get a free windshield.

I know, but I live on the edge. I only have PIP on the car. To tell you the truth, the amount I saved in insurance so far would be more than enough to replace the car if something happened.
This was just a last ditch effort to find a used windshield before I go and shell out the cash for a new one.

Travis, I just got a new windshield in my car last weekend. I only have liability insurance on the car so I had to pay all the cost. The total was $382.00 installed (plus tax) from Safelite. It's a Sekurit brand windshield with antenna. Same as OEM. Your glass may be a little less since you don't have airbags (different part #).

I just got off the phone with the place Pete used. They have a location down here by me. They quoted $251 for a new one (with antenna), installed , at my house.
That sounds like a good price so unless anyone else has one for much less and within driving distance, I am going to go with them.
Also... a side note. When installing hood shocks.. do not pressure the hood up so you can get the connector of the shock to slip over that ball. As soon as the back corner of the hood touches the windshield it sets off some kind of tiny sensor in the dash that automatically BUSTS the windshield. Its amazing the ways Germans can use technology to get our money.

Travis, even if you find a used one at a better price remember that this is for a NEW one. No scratches, pitting, etc. You can't beat $250. I tried to get that one by telling them that the airbags were disconnected but they said they have to put in glass made for an airbag car due to liablility laws.
I called everywhere and never got a better price than Safelite.
Oh yeah, I heard that about the hood shocks before. I'll leave mine alone and find a prop rod.

Travis, Im ashamed of you!!!
How many posts have there been on hood over-extension and glass breaking?
O.K., To share my dark secret... I once got picked up by a cute blonde
while canoeing down the Loxahatchee River... Was so elated that I still "had it", that I shoved the "knife-blade" sharp bow of my Jensen C-1 Comp. Cruiser into the windshield of my Maxi van. Put a little BB sized dimple in the glass!!!
After that... I always slipped an ethafoam "bumper" over the bow before sliding the boat into the van. (16 ft canoe and could carry it inside AND shut the van's back doors!) Yeah!!!
Well, sounds like you've got the problem sewn up if their going to install it too, but if you need a hand, let me know.

I know Jim.. As soon as it happened I thought to myself, in my best Red Forman voice... ,"You Dumbass."
But, no worries. I will have it all sewn up by the time I get the head back on.. lol. Windshield is the least of my problems.

I just paid $250 Canadian ($190 US?) to have a new ppg windshield installed on my Ford with a new seal. My insurance is $1,000 deductible, so I paid for it myself of course
At these prices it doesn't make sense to buy used.

Not to diminish your purchase in any way, however Safelite is probably one of the lowest quality auto glasses currently produced. With absolutly no ties at all to Sekurit, Safelite is not an OEM producer for any automotive manufacturer for good reason.
I learned this hard way, as my Safelite windshield lasted only 2 months.

What problem did you have with the windshield? I've never dealt with Safelite before but they didn't make this windshield. Sekurit did. Sekurit was the original equiptment manufacturer for Porsche. The list price for the new glass was $1256.00 for whatever that's worth. The new glass I have now has the same part # as the one that was replaced.
