Have you done anything to address possibly watered gas?

You know what? I haven't; I'm finding that possibility keeps slipping my mind. I've got this idea that's a very rare thing... couldn't be me, right? lol

Maybe I'll stop at the FLAPS on my way home and look for this HEET stuff

I pulled the DME and I don't know what to make of it: there is a bit of dirt on some surfaces; the inside of the covers are dry and clean; there is what appears to be that solder flux on a few joints but otherwise I can't see any obvious cracks etc. Admitably, I'm not a trained eye.

Hard to tell from these pics, but anyone see anything? Wondering if I should re-solder a few spots particularly where transistor is

Read this thread with interest: https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...ed-w-pics.html

Here are my same three joints:

A better view

I wouldn't think these are cracks but I'll touch them up anyway.

I have a dme from a 86 turbo. I bought the engine and computers from a running car, or so it was advertised. I am a good 3 weeks before I install the engine. If you want to borrow my dme for a couple of weeks you can for the price of postage.

That is a very nice offer, thank you. I just finished soldering all the joints I could find that even suggested the slightest lines. I put the DME back, car started, and tomorrow I'll attempt driving in to work again.

If the issue doesn't change, I just might take you up on that.

Re-soldered joints...

I also re-soldered most of the joints that connect the harness pins. Almost all of them had some sort of lines!

These are before shots (I forgot to take post-soldering photos):

Super hard to tell from pictures like that, but even a faint crack line can mean an intermittent problem. Get a magnifying glass and bright flash light and solder anything suspicious -- it's a no-regrets move. Also, before you put it all back together, do the same with the KLR. If you have cracked joints in the DME (and it seems that you did) then chances are the KLR does or will soon... Fingers crossed that was it. Always fun when you can fix a vexing problem like that for free.

Tom... Day two, work commute #3, and all is well; in fact, I would--and will--swear it responds better. I think you have official "told you so" rights on this one

PS... I'm gonna enjoy the momentary good-running and save fhe KLR for another day

PPS... every education costs something; this time, a $128 CDN fuel pump and time spent wrenching. At least I got a backup lol

Thanks all
