Has anyone seen an Audi 944?
So with the the 944 originaly designed for Audi has anyone ever visually converted a 944 to an Audi? I know it's kinda a weird question. But I'm considering picking up a 944 as an auto cross car. Ive always liked Audi and Porsche and I feel like the 944 is the Audi sports car we never got.

VW originally designed the 944 for Audi. But in the final stage of design Audi dropped the sports car and Porsche bought it to replace the 914. How is it stupid to include the cars history in your build?

'Cuz this is a looooong way from the story I've always heard.

Porsche designed the 924 for Volkswagen. When VW's management changed and the gas crisis hit in '74 VW backed out and Porsche bought the EA425 project from VW and the rest is history.

Thank you. you are right I totally had the history confused. But yes I was talking about rebadging ( in every way from the steering wheel to the front badge) basically make it what would have happened if Audi had went forward with production instead of Porsche. but that would only make sense with the 924. Please disregard my dumassery.

Don't sweat it man, even Porsche race cars flew Porsche/Audi Porsche+Audi livery .
There probably would never have even been an Audi company to rebuild after WW2 if Porsche (the man) hadn't helped convince Hitler to fund Auto Union's race car efforts. So thus, maybe never a 924, then 944.
This forum is full of cars with complete Audi engine transplants, Chevy conversions and engines with Chevy and Mitsubishi components.
Don't think you changing some badges is going to draw attention of the United Nations....

It would look dumb considering Audi never badged a car. But they were built at the Audi factory. The early 944s have parts with the vw audi label all over the place.

Seeing the 924 had an Audi engine, and other assorted parts, I could see the confusion (well, the non-S anyway).
VW dropped the 924 and went with their own Scirocco instead. How weird would it be if the project had moved forward, cause the original plan was that both VW and Porsche would have their own version... Kind of like the Dodge Stealth and Mitsubishi 3000GT...
That kind of stuff is just weird to me. 914 not withstanding.... Luckily Porsche got to brand all the US ones as Porsche's. It would be strange to see the exact same car with different badges only based on engine size.
Audi/Porsche/VW have always been a mess anyway, they are like cousins at a redneck family reunion.
They are so interbred, no mater what you called them you wouldn't be totally wrong.
