air release sound from brakes
When I apply pressure to the brake pedal, it sounds like there is compressed air being released from down near the pedal. As soon as I let off the brakes, the "air leak" sound instantly stops. The brakes work fine, and there aren't any drivability issues. I'm new to the 944 world and I haven't been able to find any information on this with my last 2 days of research. I'm not sure if it is a common problem or not.

I bet you have a tear in the brake booster - which has a large rubber diaphragm that uses air pressure to assist you in pressing the brake pedal. The suction on one side of the diaphragm is made by the engine sucking air. When you're stepping on the brake pedal, I bet that tear is opening up, and allowing air to hiss by.
Changing the booster is a pretty big project. The bolts under the dash are had to get to, and you have to take out the brake master cylinder and the pedal linkage.
