Default Clutch Slip???

My 84 944 suffers from a slight clutch slip when I start driving the car. The slippage goes away after 5 to 10 minues of driving. Otherwise, the car is running smoothly and there are no wierd sounds coming from the tranny area.

I am wondering if the original rubber-donut clutch is worn? Or if I may have an oil leak problem that burns the oil away after a few minutes (making the clutch slip problem disappear)?

Any one have a similar experience with this?

either way, oil leak or worn clutch same repair.. Oil would be a rear main seal. just after you remove the clutch...

Clutch slippage is no fun. At least spring-centered clutches don't fail catastrophically like the rubber-centered. The last clutch (spring-centered) that was put in my 83 recently started slipping after about 70K miles and essentially the car had half the go that it does now with a new SACHS clutch.

Bad thing about rubber-centered clutches is that when they go bad, the car is often undriveable. Like Dwight says, I would schedule a clutch replacement in the near future and be sure to put in a new main seal for another $16 or so.

Good luck with it and sorry to hear, but these things happen eventually!

Thanks for the help guys!

Yup...it looks like Rosa will have to go to the shop for a clutch job pretty soon...

I was also lucky to have scored a brand new complete spring-centered clutch assembly for $200 a few months ago. Some guy was selling it in the local newsgroup. He bought it at a Porsche dealership, and was going to install it. One day, he parked his car next to a construction site and BOOM......a concrete slab fell on his car! No car....no need for a clutch...and he sold it to me cheap.
