Default 951 Power-To-Weight Comparisons

I keep a spreadsheet that calculates the horsepower-to-weight ratios of cars. Here are some interesting comparisons:

86 Porsche 951: 2,899 lbs./217HP = 13.36 lbs per HP
02 Subaru WRX: 3,085 lbs./227HP = 13.59 lbs per HP
98 Porsche Boxster: 2,822 lbs./201HP = 14.04 lbs per HP

86 Porsche 951, minor mods: 2,899 lbs./300HP = 9.66 lbs per HP
02 BMW M3: 3,415 lbs./333HP = 10.26 lbs per HP
93 Ferrari 348 Spyder: 3,250 lbs./296HP = 10.98 lbs per HP

98 Porsche 993 Twin Turbo: 3,307 lbs./400HP = 8.27 lbs per HP
86 Porsche 951, moderate mods: 2,899 lbs./350HP = 8.28 lbs per HP
01 BMW Z8: 3,494 lbs./394HP = 8.87 lbs per HP

86 Porsche 951, con$iderable mods: 2,899 lbs./400HP = 7.25 lbs per HP
03 Corvette Z06: 3,133 lbs./405HP = 7.74 lbs per HP
01 Porsche 996 Twin Turbo: 3,395 lbs./415HP = 8.18 lbs per HP

04 Porsche Carrera GT: 3,043 lbs./605HP = 5.03 lbs per HP
86 Porsche 951, exten$ive mods: 2,899 lbs./500HP = 5.80 lbs per HP
04 Viper SRT-10: 3,410 lbs./500HP = 6.82 lbs per HP

Why do we love 951's?

Remember that 2,899 figure can be dropped a fair amount as well without _major_ changes...

Best wishes,

My 87 951 just weighed in at 3200Lbs. All stock, spare wheel in car, elect seats, etc. Is this so far off from everyone else. How much and what removal was done to get down to 2899 Lbs.

I got the weight figures from an old NADA guide. 2,899 lbs is for the 1986 only - the 951 got heavier over the years.

Real-world weights will always differ from the published values. I'm sure if I weighed my 1986 it would be more than 2,899 lbs.

It can go up too, especially after too many trips to Round Table Pizza.

or, just let me drive the car. Weighting in at a heavy 138Ibs, I have been known to get better times out of cars for people.
