Question should i keep late model dme with chip?

My '83 944 had cold start problem- ordered a used late model dme with chip and matching air flow meter since i have replace everything but these. The dme did not solve problem. Should I keep the late model dme with chip or put my '83 dme back in and send the late model back for credit?

what kind of cold start problem? mine runs on 3 cylinders for a bit. it did this with early and late dme. itoo have changed, and that issue seems unrelated. my car does idle a bit higher when warm with the new DME. i may change the ignition wires and see if that does anything.

i believe the mechanic found a vacuum hose from trottle body reversed causing no vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator. I haven't talked with him today to see if the cold start problem is resolved. I am just wondering if the newer dme with the chip has any advantages over the '83 dme?
