Smile St. Louis 944 Owners

Any 944 owners in the St. Louis area interested in trading info on where we get parts, who we let work on our cars, other local resources? I see a few other 944's around here, but not many.

Lew,

There are a few of us around the area to be sure. The place I use is German Automotive Specialists off of Watson Road. Ree-Vann is an option as well. A lot will depend on where you are located in Saint Louis. Are you a member of PCA? The club sponsors a variety of events throughout the year and there are SCCA Road Rallies as well.

I actually live in the City of St. Louis, and I've had the car for three years. I'm familiar with both the places you mention. Enough said there. The car has been a restoration project. When I bought the car it had a new paint job and new tires and not much else. I have redone, replaced, and rebuilt everything else. I was able to do most of it. Walter's in Brentwood put in a new motor and clutch for me a year and a half ago. The price was good and it's still running strong. They did forget to tighten a few things, but overall I was happy. Stuff like fixing the A/C and putting on a new cat was done by Advanced Auto on Gravois. Very conscientious people. Parts I usually get from Vertex, only been to the local dealer once. Right now I'm looking at St. Louis Custom Hot Rods to redo the upholstery. I never joined the PCA, I was under the impression they didn't care much for 924's or 944's. I could be wrong.

I was about 50 miles east of st louis around christmas time and saw a black 924 and a brown 944. I would've never expected to see them in towns where the population is below 5,000.

Is Eddie Auto Top still on Manchester?

I had them do my Scirocco seats back about 21 years ago. They did a nice job.

Mike of Eddie Auto Top (his family owns [owned?] the business) had a 911 when I knew him. He had a 308GTB Ferrari before that and autocrossed a D Mod Lotus Europa.

If you check them out, see if Mike is still there. Tell him the guy who shot the photos of his 911 20 years ago sent you. He should remember that. Probably get a kick out of it.

Mick944 posted a new thread and mentioned Autos of Europe on Manchester. I hadn't heard of them, but will keep them in mind.

How are you folks doing with the emissions laws? I had to get a waiver two years ago and have since replaced the cat, oxygen sensor, gas cap, plugs, wires, even got a new charcoal canister. Unfortunately, nobody locally has the equipment to duplicate the state's emission test, so you don't know if it will pass until you take it in.
