Bought my 951S, then took an extra $2,000 for the road
Yes, this happened last year. It's a shame some Porsche owners create these experiences.
I sold my 951S to a fellow from Sacramento, CA. His name is Stephen S.
The guy supposedly raced 944's before, and seemed to be an enthusiast/very nice person from our conversations on the phone. So, I offered to pick him up at the airport, set up a FREE tech inspection on the way out and housed him for the night. The car was at Dave White Motorsports just a few weeks before his arrival, and the car was in prestine mechanical condition.
After I picked up this charactor (and speaking to his mother 10 times or so on the phone), I found him to be a punk looking to hot rod a nice track worthy 951S. After counting the money on the table the next day and writing a contract/signing the title, he took $2,000 from the pile when I went to get a drink of water in the kitchen, only 6 feet away.
I noticed the missing money when I got to the bank, and immediately called his father's cell, as he was waiting for his son in Texas. His father then told me his son admitted having the money, but over-boosted the car on the way back (or something), blowing the headgasket and frying several other parts. Due to HIS mistake, after months of phone calls the "doctor's son" never paid me back the money he took. He also never showed for his FREE tech inspection on the way out. I take from the tone of his parents that this kid has been in trouble before. His dad, a wealthy doctor who now owns his own business would not even speak with me on the matter.
Anyone see a graphite grey 951S around that area?
Any suggestions of what I could do? Some time has passed at this point...

Sounds like the kid STOLE $2000 from you and admitted it to you. Doesnt sound much different than a bank robbery since you had paperwork showing the real amount of money that you were supposed to have. Doesnt matter what happened to the car after the transaction, he got the car as-is. I think a judge would be on your side if you bring in solid proof. And the doctor would probably rather pay you than have to send his kid to court.

Ok, I can do this but it will cost me since I'll have to fly to CA from FL to show up in court. My friend witnessed a lot of this.
What do you think the odds are of me winning this battle? Is it worth it?
Does anyone live in the area? PM me if you do : )

I'm a kid also (23), I call him a "kid" b/c he reminds of someone from a teen movie : )
Anyway, I filled a police report when it happened. The father did nothing - probably doesn't care that his pathetic son pulled "another one."
Thanks guys - let me know if you find him. I may be out that way soon : )

I'd talk to an attorney and have him notify the kid and the father about what you're willing to go to to get this money back. Maybe slip in something about money not being the issue, but the morals of it.

Don't go out there to go to court...make him come out to you & handle it in your local court. Sounds to me that the car is his, but he stole $2000 from you, so just press theft charges. Either way I'd be getting in contact with the local police ASAP.

Sounds like your screwed, live and learn. What good is it going to do to call the police now that it has been "months"? How can you prove he took your money? Move on dude, sometimes in life you just gotta factor in stuff like this in.
