The early steel lower control arms are compatible up to and including 86 944 and 951.

The modification needed to the 944 steel arms is to provide an insert into the lower control arm for the sway bar drop link. See the attached photo. Because you have the aluminum arms, a fabricator can make an insert for each and welded it to the same dimensional orientation as the aluminum arms. The insert is the one with the yellow tie wrap.
