Default RHD & the Battery

I was under the impression that the battery was in the trunk of all RHD cars, to make room for the brake/clutch assemblies. Someone then posted that the battery of some was actually in the engine bay.

The reason for asking is if with LT-1 conversions if it would be possible to move the battery to the trunk to move some weight to the rear, and maybe even use some of the ideas to keep power brakes?

Anyways can someone post some pics/information on the RHD battery location & power brake assemblies?

Not trying to be a smartass, but what exactly to do with the brake and clutch forces the battery to the back?

If the car were RHD then that brake booster would be right where your battery is.

Well, not exactly. The brake booster on a 944 is in the engine compartment, not the well right in front of the windshield where the battery normally goes. Also, in all the pictures I have of RHD 944s the booster is in the same location as that for a LHD and complicated linkage is used to make everything work. I just don't get why the battery gets moved to the back.

RHD are the Red Hand Defenders. Terrorist group in N. Ireland. If you suspect your 944 belongs to this group, you should call Tom Ridge immediately.

Maybe it's this linkage that makes you do it.

Anyone have any pics?

Yeah, I'll scan some later. I can't really see much in that area in the pics I have though. May be linkage. I do see that vacuum accumulator thingy, but that's next to the battery on my car too.

Maybe a UK lister could jump in here huh?

When you want a pic - go to eBay. Here's an early 944.

And here's a later one, automatic. I don't see the battery where I'd expect it.

Ahh, I tell you what, the fuse box is also very different, the battery at the front ones not having the black cover in the engine compartment.

My car is right hand drive. The engine bay looks exactly like the left hand drive cars. Only difference is that I have a separate reservoir for my clutch fluid. My battery is in the boot.

Late models had the battery in the rear, early in the front, I moved mine to the rear in a marine box. The brake pedal is done via linkage.
Late models also had the wipers going the other way, I reversed mine.

I have a couple questions since the pics are up.
What is that brown canister, above the headlight motor, next to the distributor and winshield washer fluid in the white car.

And in the red car what is the little dirty white canister way up in front of where the battery is supposed to be. I'm just asking because i don't have these things in my car.

1. Power steering fluid reservoir.
2. ? Do you mean the windsheild wiper fluid tank?
