Default Performance Figures Wanted-LT1-944

Anyone have top speed, 0-60, or 1/4 mi times for an LT1 V8 powered 944?

Just curious.

Per my Beltronics Vector FX-1:
LT-1 (320 hp) 0-60 4.8 secs.
0-100 9.2 secs.
LT-4 (425 hp) 0-60 4.4 secs.
0-100 8.6 secs.
Could probably drop times by 0.5 secs. if I wanted to abuse the drive train.

WOW! Now thats what I'm looking for. The hell with 4 cylinders. I dare to ask if you had a top speed figure, although I would guess 185mph with stock aerodynamics. Maybe 195mph with a large front air dam.

Any 1/4 mile times? Thanks. I want one of those. I was thinking of selling my 16 valve motor and dropping in an LT1 or LT4.

Any tips or info will be helpful. I am familiar with the Renagade guys, but a little concerned with removing the power brakes idea. How are your brakes?

Is the LT-4 conversion available in kit form?

I thought all the companies that have these kits only had them for the LT-1 motors?

Why faster with a large front air dam? Incorrect assumption there. The 924 has a much smaller 'dam' and the cD is lower... it doesnt TOTALLY have to do with the fenders, but more with frontal area.

Very correct. The less area exposed, the less drag there is. When we hit 80 on bikes, it's time to tuck below the windscreen. But I also think that the 924 has more lift in the front that we, I may be wrong. Aerodynamics is a son of a bitch though.

hmm lift means less weight (at least less friction on the wheels/wheel bearings, and i know that means less traction too, but follow me here), = better accel at high speeds? no wonder she's faster than a 944

So that's why most only had a 4-spd. I wonder if you could actually push the front end up in the air if you went fast enough...a 185 MPH wheelie in a 924...ideas are starting to flow.

OK...the LT-4 upgrade is based on the same LT-1, 5.7 litre motor, and is avilable from Sumitt Racing for about $2300. It includes new intake, cylinder heads, roller camshaft, and roller rockers. Requires a re-program on the OBD-I. Sumitt says proven 425 hp. I also had the heads ported, so may have a little more that that. The power band is moved up the scale to about 3500 rpm, then it really starts to scream. This is good, as the LT-1 had so much low end torque that wheel spin was a real problem. I've seen 162 mph on my gps in this car and had another 500 rpm before hiting the rev-limiter. Had plenty of power, but ran out of *****! Anyone who has gone that fast can tell you... its scarry, at least for me. This car will take your breath away. Next project is going to be to try and engineer the Corvette 6 speed transaxle into the car. Probably this summer. And Renegade is working on better hedders vs. the shorty type that are currently avilable. And don't work about the brakes. The car will stop as well as it did with the power assist, you just have to push slightly harder. I honestly don't even think about it once behind the wheel.

I've tried using my brakes just backing out of the driveway etc. with the engine off. Kinda scary, I have to really press HARD to get it to even stop rolling out of the driveway. Wouldn't that be just the same thing? Could you just disconnect the vaccum hose going to the power brakes to see what manual brakes feels like?

I have the M29 six speed in my camaro. From what I read it is the viper six speed, (GM couldnt get enough made so they bought some from chrysler and put them in Z28s with the performance axle option) and doesnt have the first to fourth lockout. which transmission is in the car now?

FWIW, torque peaks on my relatively stock LT-1 at about 2400 rpm.

I would think the feeling of using the car with engine off through the stock power assisted system would be much different than a non assisted set up. Similar to how a non power steering rack feels much different than a power steering rack with the pump disconected.....

What upgrades did you do to the suspension when you did the engine?

Ian, why would you think that? IIRC, they just remove the booster so it should feel pretty close to that, just go take a ride in an older muscle car, lots of them had no power assist on the brakes (but they also had drums on a large portion).

As to top speed, using the stock trans with the NA gearset I think the top speed would be around 168 or so given stock tire sizes. As Predator said you will run out of revs before motor. If you wanted top speed you could put a turbo trans in it.

FWIW - they make a "skip-shift" eliminator for the Camaro/Corvette. Tom, yours probably has this installed. Just plugs in under the car near the shifter. I dont anyone with a Z-28 or Corvette who hasnt done this. You should hear those guys bitch about that 1-4 shift.
