Default dash lights out

i have read that there seems to be a problem with the later dash illumination, but is there any problems associated with the early lights? when i was driving from work the other day, my dash lights flickered then went out. they have never done this to me before. and they havent come back on. if they kept coming on/off i would think wiring. but the fact they dont has me puzzled. i figured not a fuse because the fact they flickered before going out. any thoughts?

Check the fuses anyway, then the bulbs (who knows myabe they all burnt out at the same time), then check for shorts. Do the guages work properly?

I just went through this. If the gauges work, check to see if the rear license plate lights work. If they do, the prob is in the gauges. If they do not, check fuse #38. It is the one just for the instrument lights.

It's probably a bad ground or bad connection to the back of the instruments, or else the fuse is blown. (would have to be a short though)

Kinda hard for him to do that, he doesn't even have one!

Is the plate between the tail light one that lights up? I had a similar problem, my "porsche"plate, license plate lights, nor dash lights worked. I pulled back the carpet and found out why, shorted wires. The dash lights are on the same circuit. I simply spliced both plate lights into the tail light leads, thus eliminating the need for that lead to the rear. Yea, I was too lazy to pull the carpet up all the way to the fuse box, and rewire/ repair the shorted one. Installed new fuse, #9 I believe, and viola, dash lights!
