Listen even 50 Cent pronounces it Porsch-A.... In the VW commercial they say volkwagen... in the Porsche commercial its Porscha... How can you not understand that?
If you say Porsh...your wrong... theres no argument about it..

For years I wasn't positive which pronunciation was correct, as a result the way I pronounced it varied, sometimes 1 syllable, sometimes 2. One day I was sitting in front of the TV flipping through the channels when I saw a bunch of beautiful old cars, it was a clip from one of the big concours events and I left it on. The featured Marque that year was Porsche and they trotted out one of the family members to accept a plaque or something. His pronunciation of Porsche was clearly polysyllabic. That was good enough for my, I figure the guy would know how to pronounce his own name.

Dave brings up a good point. We have to remember that Porsche is a name. My name is Christian Schneider, in America the pronunciation is 10 times different than the pronunciation a German would say it. Either way it doesnt bother me. So I don't think Porsche will mind.

Well i've always preferred the monosyllabic pronunciation...I'm not about to go and pronounce it in the true german fashion, because people will look at me funny...but saying Porsha has never felt comfortable...english is my mother tongue, I read it as Porsh, as does EVERYONE else, until they actually hear someone say Porsha, like Captain Picard in the commercials, and thus correct themselves. In fact, everyone who I talk to about my car pronounces it Porsh. I'm comfortable with that.
Just like when you hear "Peugeot", people say "Poo-joh", because, unless trained to do so, native english speakers cannot pronounce it with an authentic French accent.
This whole argument is ridiculous anyways, some of you sure get heated up about it. But hey, that's what makes the forums fun!

Actually, I pronounce Peugeot as "Puke-it"
My favorite story is the one about the famous airplane maker, Loughead. Anybody know who this is? He changed the spelling because people here kept mispronouncing it. I think I like the way the new spelling looks better anyway.

out of respect for the family I believe it should be two syllables but of course the "eh" on the end is just a release of air after the "sch"....it is not emphasized at all........my 2 cents only.....after all why would they pronounce it like that in their own commericials if it was just "Porsh" . ...uh...come on people...get a life....

exactly, its a name, therefore two syllables. why be all **** about your car and then figure, 'hey who cares what it's called'?

My german friend says it almost like por-sheh, the emphasis is on the first syllable, but I have always said it more like por-sha. Oh, and the word fuch means fox in german, and should be said almost like fox with a german accent, kindof like fuox with both the vouls held short, knowing a german girl who loves porsches comes in handy (hey, what does this label say?)
