Default Possibly selling 92 968 92k miles..$$?

Back Story.
A junk yard find. Sat for 8 years. Junk yard owner did not know how to work the Variocam timing. I tried to buy the car for 5 years. Car owner died, I was able to buy the car.
production # 321

Bad:
Paint is peeling as the clear coat is gone on some of the top surfaces
Rear carpet has turned to dust
Body trim needs a few clips
Minor dings
small star on right side of windshield
I worked the speedo and now the Air bag light is on. I started and drove it with the AB disconnected, and apparently this automatically triggers a code that has to be cleared by the dealer..

Failed MD inspection for;
* Odometer (I tried to reset the trip while driving. So mileage is accurate to within 2 miles)
* Tail light bulb
* Small star on windshield..I think that this was a bad call!!

Good;
Heads professionally and completely redone
New head gasket
New TB/WP
New brakes Rotors/pads
New tires
New engine wiring harness
New belts hoses
Cleaned injectors
New fluids and filters
New PS reservoir
Dash cluster has new tunnel blue LEDs. bright.
Interior besides rear carpet is good
Seats Great
Dash has minor cracks

Everything works except;
* speedo/Odo (on order and will be replaced).
* Needs AC recharge. I have new receiver / dryer to include conversion to 134 kit if desired.

Car is complete;
Belly pans
tool kit
Air compressor
Spare
6 disk CD changer
Some documentation from previous owner. He documented his gas fill ups!! Very meticulously maintained until the Variocam. Yard owner lost all documentation.
I am the second or third owner.

Car runs and drives Great!!
A little rough at first start, but I haven't been driving it so I imagine it may clear right up. Some people cant notice that it runs rough!!
Shifts smooth with great cornering and power.

Why selling.. a bit of a long story.

Bought this car to restore with my son (he was 13). He wasn't interested, now heading to college this year. I was going to keep it as my other daily driver. I have a '87 928.
Daughter also going back to school this year so gave her my wife's car. Wife is now driving the 928, but it is scheduled for an engine swap in the fall/winter (thrust bearing is shot with block damage). My driver is a 2007 Durango that may also need an engine change, or a replacement SUV. Just too many projects that are must get completed.

The other reason is, I really like driving an auto now. Cant believe I am saying that as the 968 is a great sports car, but I am committed to a complete resto of my 928.

I am not 100% sure about selling it but kind of hard to justify keeping it.

If I sell it I am not hard up to make a killing on it. I just want it to get driven. So, this would be a GREAT deal to the right person.

Looking for suggestions on price?

Pics upon request.

Best
John

Car needs a complete paint job. Say $5,000 (anyone have a closer idea?). Add say $1,500 - $2,000 for other stuff. That's say $7,000 plus the car and you have a $18,000 car or a $10,000 car? I would say $5,000-$10,000 and it would be hard to get $10,000 even if the interior doesnt have a moldy smell from sitting, and if there is no rust on the undercarriage. Sorry that it is a big range. Was it outside for ten years just sitting? How bad does the interior smell? How presentable is it now with the bad paint?

My buddy picked up an 968 Tip with 9X,000 miles, service records from new, lots of belts and water pump receipts, can chain tensioner was replaced, straight body, some dings, not perfect, but very presentable for less than $10,000 last year. It doesnt need a paint job, and it has records, that's why i am starting a $5,000. To make yours perfect someone may have $15,000 into it when they could have bought a clean one that hasn't sat outdoors in a yard.

Rough idle is probably motor mounts. Another biggie is the cam chain tensioner. New head wont be new for long if the nylon pad breaks.

Default 968

no smell, car presents well even with the paint issue. Cam tensioner and pads replaced. I think rough idle is a fuel damper. Car has no rust and is clean underneath. Was parked out of the grass.
Thanks for the input.
Would you suggest I offer it on eBay, Craigslist?
thanks

What options does it have? Look in the owners manual or at the VIN sticker. If it has sport suspension (M030), LSD (220), or sports seats (assuming the interior is in good shape as noted above) then it could be worth something. Hard to say without pics, but given that the paint has started to peel, with none of those I'd say $5-7, and then add $1-1.5k for each. Finding a car with all three is pretty rare, so the buyer would be getting what sounds like a fully sorted car with paint issues for $8, maybe 10 if you are lucky. As the above seller noted, the paint is just such a prohibitive issue for a buyer trying to make this more than a track/lemons car.

Also weren't all 968s 134?

No fuel damper on the 968, I suggest a leakdown test. It might have a cylinder or valve issue from sitting with the intake off, in the pics the cam chain looked rusty?
It's probably worth more as a parts car but you might find someone who wants a track car, autoX car, or would like to repaint it as a project. It'd probably sell fast for $2500, not sure if it'd bring $5500.

Send me pictures. The 944S my buddy and I tracked needs a heart transplant. He/we may be interested. I sent you a private message with my contact info.

Hi, please send me pictures and how much you would like to for it. I am driving 944 2.5 right now, if the car is right I would replace it with 968.
Best regards, Robert

Default Pix, not sure what pix were posted.

Engine pix were probably prior to engine work. Leak down and compression all good. Heads professionally redone. Cycilders and pistons clean with 0 visible wear.
only issue is the paint. I will check options again next week, but pretty sure it was standard with nothing exceptional.
