924 /944 Race tire carrier / trailer hitch ??

I place the front three tires across and in an upright position. The rear tire acts as a type of doorstop / wedge to keep the front tires in place.
Drove to Watkins Glen and back (4 hour trip both ways) with no problems whatsoever.
For shorter trips (like Pocono and Lime Rock), I just mount the R-compounds at home and drive to the track: highway driving doesn't really wear out DOT approved R's: you'll have chord showing on the edges from track driving long before the center tread wears down!
Of course for VIR, I borrowed a trailer (thanks Al!) and a Bronco (thanks Pat!). That's really the way to go, except for the Bronco: due to a leaky rear main seal, I went through 17 quarts of oil in the Bronco during the trip down and back! And most of that oil wound up on my 944S2!
But that's another story...

Sam, send me an email and I can email you some pics of my hitch. It's still on the floor so you will get a good idea. It appears to be professionally made for the 944. But anyone could easily dulpicate it for about $20 of steel and a Walmart reciever.

Great replies. I really don't want the wheels and tires in the car with me. The hitch or roof rack seem to be a better way for me to go.
As I understand it, the hitch "should" be one with a 200lb tongue weight. Many of the small ones are only 100lbs. The tbar and wheels/tires will exceed 100 lbs.

I like it. That one is on the west coast for pick-up only and Im on the east coast.
Food for thought, though. I could probably find or make something similar.
I'll be driving 2 hrs (one way) to most of my autocross events this year which is one reason the t-bar was intersting to me.
