924 /944 Race tire carrier / trailer hitch ??
Hello,
I need to carry the race tire set to events and I was thinking of doing something like what's seen in the pic. Anbody BTDT and can steer me to a complete 924/944 tire carrier kit?
Thanks,
Greg

I would skip the roof rack. 4 tires is plenty heavy and if you drop one or it slips while getting it on/off the rack!!!!!!!!!
Trailer hitch and small trailer is the way to go.
If yo surf, get the rack. I have an OEM one and they are very nice.

my autocross rims (original 15X6,15x7 phonedials) fit easily into the hatch with the seat folded down. and there's still enough room for a small floor jack, toolbox, and 2 collapsing chairs. just put an old blanket down to keep the carpet clean.

I use a Thule roof rack system with a Thule basket (the predecessor to the current "playpen" basket they sell. Works quite well: I put three across in the front, and one behind them acting as a wedge. If tied down properly, it is very stable: I hardly notice any wind drag at all.

Oh great another thing I gotta get details from Zoltan on!
I usually bring the wife and kid to events so the backseat is up, the only way to bring the other tires is to swap 'em at home and drive there on 'em,
DOT R compounds are only street legal 'til they're shaved!

I have been considering going this route myself.
I found a listing for " 1977-1991 Porsche 924 & 944 Class 1 hitch @ a Yahoo store Hitches4less price $259.99
Here is a Miata guy who has documented his trailer project it is from 2000 so some of the prices are off. Another site with addresses
The only maker I had heard for for 944 hitches was Da’Lan Hitch Inc. They are located in Shirley Mass, but on searching it appears they were bought out this past year by Curt Manufacturing,Inc
I'm trying to find one for a S2.
On trailers I have been told it is better to go for one with 12 inch tires vs. the cheapest ones with 8's. Better highspeed tracking, ware characteristics and easier on the bearings.
