Just found out that the Insurance company will be totalling my 1988 944S (boooo!!!). That's the bad news.
Good news is, they called Porsche (dumbasses) to get a price on the car so they can send me a cheque. They said my 944S was worth $14,143 Canadian ($11,000 American), after the deductable. I only paid $11,000 Canadian for it.
So, now what do I do with my car? It will cost $1500 to buy it back, so I'm guessing I should do that right away, yes?
Then I need to figure out what to do with it from there. I don't have access to the tools to remove an engine, so how would I sell parts? The entire car (except the side where it was hit....see pics below) is still fine. How much would I get if I sold the car "as is" (it drives just like it did before it got hit)? .....or is it worth my while to pay someone to part it out?
Engine has 150,000 klms (93,000 miles).
All belts, rollers, waterpump all done at 135,000 Klms
New upper tensioner pad at 135,000
New Fuel Filter
New wires (Magnacore red), cap, roter, plugs
Upper engine all new seals, gaskets, etc (timing belt failure) - also 8 new valves, 16 valve seals and stems
No dash cracks at all, not even close
Seats almost new looking - carpet like new, not a spot on it.
Still all original except a Blazak chip in the DME - original stereo, etc
Not one spot of rust anywhere
What do you all suggest and is anyone interested in parts (if I figure out how to get at them) or the car? Maybe I could fix it (I figure around $6000) and buy a Supercharger for it with the left over money? I dunno......

what is shipping like from Canada to the US? I'm sure most of the people on here buying parts would need to ship to the US and that may not be feasible, especially on big heavy parts. If you part it, i would be interested in the black dash trim piece that fits over the heater/ac unit and the Long dash trim piece that runs just to the right in front of the passenger, if they are in good shape and reasonable in price.

Also, if anyone does need parts, either PM me or list them on this thread. That way I can have an idea of what will go. I will keep a running list going and let everyone know when I can have the parts available.

Was the frame tweaked in the crash? And thats funny as hell that they called Porsche to get a quote. I say if the frame isnt badly tweaked, fix it up. From your original post it seemed like you were pretty bummed about losing the car. If you do decide to part it out, let me know. I could use the right rear tailight lenses (i need three of the red lenses actually) if they arent cracked or anything. If shipping too the states isnt that much atleast!

The adjuster who came out said it was fixable. He looked under the car and said the floor hasn't "bananaed" or bent anywhere. He also pointed out that right where the roof meets the cowl, there was no damage. He said the fact that the front window didn't pop was also a good sign.
The only parts on this car that are not "like new" are the passenger door, the passenger front fender, and the part of the rear fender that the door shuts on. One rim has a nic in it. All glass, lights, etc, etc are good.

From the pics, I would say the floor is bent, but if he says otherwise, that's really good news.
The B pillar will take some work, but other than that, if it's all straight, it's just panel replacement.
If you do part it, there are a few misc things I am looking for, but if you can, FIX IT!
I would hate to see another 944 end up at a junk yard, completely stripped.

You really lucked out, well, as much as you can with a totalled 944S. What insurance compan is that? only in Canada I suppose. They sound like a keeper, most people have huge problems, for instance, I'm only insured for blue book, which, as you probably know, is a horrible price. Anyway, not that I have the $$, but how much are you looking to sell it as is? (US$) If I were you, I'd sell it as is, take that money, and find yourself a prestine 944 turbo S. (11,000 US + what you get for the car=944 turbo S)

Take the money, buy it back, make track car or chop for parts. Do not let the INS company keep it. they will sell it to a scrap yard who will chop it anyway. You can make some good $$$ and give us all a some good deals on parts. The motor is worth $1500 alone. If you where down here I'd give you $1500 for the whole thing. Nice spares for my S.

Yes, I agree with the others that if the car really truly has a straight frame and is fixable for a reasonable amount of money (ie the same or less than what you get from the insurance company), if you love the car you may want to fix it. However many cars will never be like they were before getting fixed unless you go to a VERY high quality shop.
That said, if you do decide to part it out (which for $1500 and being able to part it you could have probably as much as $20k to buy your next car...cha-ching...turbo time!) then I'd like your gong relay. The one that makes the chime if you leave the key in the ignition or the lights on when you open the door. Mine is missing....has been since I bought the car. Not willing to pay the price for a new one.

What I will do if I part it out is take out all of the interior parts and small parts on my own and put them in my basement. The body panels, the engine, tranny, etc. will have to done by someone else.
I figure I can get my $1500 (I paid to buy it back) back in the small parts alone maybe.

P.S. - a name change for me may be in the future....maybe 944TurboBoyeee!!!
