$7 to buy it back?????
They told me they would sell it back at the salvage price, which is apparently $1500. Wonder how they come up with these numbers?

Sounds like the vultures are circling.... Maybe you should sit down and make a list of all the parts you can easily pull, and then we can help you with pricing the item on that list. BTW, don't part with the wheels until the very end -- you'll want them for moving the chassis around.

Probably that is the going rate salvage yards pay for a good 944 wreck. The INS CO knows the parts are worth way more, but it takes time, spare, labor, overhead, etc to realise a profit.
I've been parting my 914 out. It takes time. I have a nice paved & covered work area on the side of the house. But it is taking much longer than I thought to strip the car, organize the parts, market them & ship them. A few item will bring good money. Most parts will go for a few bucks.
I really don't want to add up all my time. It probably will come out to burger flipping wages. Not to mention all the weekends I've wasted. But you will get some good coin if you ignore the time factor.
If you have time, part it out. If not, buy the car and someone on the forum will give you your $1500 back and take it away. If you were in TX I would have already sent you the $.

i'd be interested in the a/c compressor if it's r134a. also the sunroof motor. maybe the rear hatch. the wheels. the front spoiler (yay for red S's). maybe the seats.
let me know what you decide to do (email is better for me than a PM- nkalist@wested.org or elvisizer@yahoo.com)

Get one or two people to help you and it will take one month. I spent two 8 hour days removing ALL THE PARTS and then an hour or two a day answering emails, and shipping stuff out.

Another upside to parting a car is you REALLY get to know how they are put together and you learn how NOT to disassemble things - but at no real penalty.
But I think it should be fixed up. I feel some moral obligation to the marque to keep every Porsche possible on the road - but others may not share that conviction.
From the responses on the board - sounds like you have lots of stuff presold.
There's NO question about buying the car - do that for sure THEN figure out what to do with it.
If you want - store it till Spring - drive it here to Toronto - and i'll gladly help you disassemble it. I have a lot's of storage space for parts. : )

Frame has to be bent. Sell for parts and get a 951 or better.
I need rear valance, ground effects spoiler. Looked at your picture and it doesn't look like you have one. Thought they started on 87 S and Turbos.
I have a fist sized dent in my left front fender. I haven't gone to dentless shop yet but it is on the crease so I don't think they can do it. I am interested in your car is red like mine but shipping from East Canada to Bay Area is bound to be expensive. I could probably do as well at Parts Heaven across the bay. So consider my interest level at medium for these body parts.

i might be interested in the 944S AFM since mine is fine but i think causing some idle stumbles, and brand new they go for way too much, so if you can gimme a deal... i'de be interested. maybe that and the tps too. 944S specific stuff

Whatever you do DONT BOTHER FIXING IT!! It will never be the same...
You have a GREAT offer from the insurance company (Right, Tom R??), take it, and buy yourself a nice turbo that hasn't been crashed and fixed (ie: NO salvage title)!
