Default Rennlist Q for John D.

Is there any way to know which Rennlist users spend the most time ON Rennlist? I know you have post counters, but is there a timer to see how long someone is logged into Rennlist? I think that'd be interesting, at least a top 10 list or something.

Me too (at work, shhhh).

It would just be interesting to see who is here a lot and if they are a paying member and if they are just browsing or if they help others too.

Actually - yes and no... For various reasons, I have this server programmed to "kill" a connection after a certain amount of time - and it is accelerated if there is no activity from the client browser. These are predicated on the HTTP server settings, the database settings and the PHP settings. But - for a connection which has "timed out" - it is re-established when a user interacts with their browser (resetting the time-out to the HTTP/PHP and database).

So - yes - if I look at my logs - I can see who is on and "interactive". But for folks logged in - without activity, that client IP/session is dropped so someone else can log in without starting another server instance, and that IP is dropped from the logs..... It's part of the server tuning I was working on when I upgraded the servers, the OS Versions and circuits a few months ago....

For that - I'm pretty convinced that with over 20,000 registered users to the Forums - and about 5 lurkers per registered user - you don't want to know... Let's just say my log files exceed 100MB every 12 hours, on this server alone, so I use a CRON job to refresh a new one, and store the previous ones off the server - and delete those after a certain time frame...

*whistle/phew sound*

Indeed, now I know why you've disabled the 'Who's Online' (and posting where) function!

can you easily get a stat like top 100 active people? or top 50, or 20, or whatever? It can be a ratio of time spent to time registered. Is that possible without wasting a lot of your time? It would be cool to just post a thread, 100 top users, or something, listing names (rennlist screen name) and their stats. can you do that?

Oaky, admitedly. Those that are here and don't post would show up.

But they're lurkers, they get scared for whatever reason and don't want to be known.

I always keepone browser open to this forum, if I go anywhere else within Rennlist it requires it's own browser.
