Fuel injectors
Hey guys so I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the fuel injection system on a 1980 porsche 924. I hear the system is very temperamental . Any thoughts of what we can do to get rid of the problems some people say that there is a new system u can get that doesn't have those problems and I'm wondering if the car I'm getting already has it.

924s have the Bosch CIS (continuous injection system) fuel injection. This is comprised of mechanical injectors (as opposed to electrically operated) that get their fuel from a "distribution pump" which has a large flap that's in the air inlet stream to the engine. As more air goes to the engine, the flap moves, and the CIS system squirts more fuel out of the injectors.
Primary problems are just issues with cleaning and/or deterioration from ethanol fuels.

Yes, CIS is a very primitive fuel injection system, probably the best reason to stay away from that fuel injection system... I spent many an hour in the 1980s trying to figure out rube goldberg modifications to keep my VW and Audi cars running. At a minimum, you will need an understanding of how the airflow meter and the warmup regulator works.. Then, you will need to check the injector pattern of the individual injectors. I would recommend investing in a fuel pressure gauge for CIS (two connections to the gauge, with a valve in between.)

Not temperamental - just beautifully complex...see my signature
Most issues folks have now is just due to age of the components, things not sealing or moving as well as they did when new 40 years ago.
But it still works pretty well.
