That's what sold it for me. Nobody has a clue what it is, or how old it is (when it's clean!).
I get that all the time! I love the styling of both cars, but in the 5 years I've owned a 951 I haven't received as many compliments as I have in the short time I've had the 968.

Actually, there is one thing about the 968 I do not like -- the transmission. The ratios are such that relative to the S2, you have a taller 1st gear, and what amounts to an extra gear between 4th and 5th. I'm sure it depends on my driving style but I find the 5th and 6th gears on the 968 rather redundant. One top of that, it weighs more (not sure by how much) -> extra weight and no performance gain is a no no...

I would would take a 968 cab over a Boxster too. 968s, especially the later years are not a common site. I think ive only seen 3 968s show up at PCA events over the past year. And there are 2 black ones driving around my area. I see plenty more Boxsters though!

I don't see them much myself, they were more common around here when they were still selling new. I did get to test drive one when it was new though....for a school paper.

I have to say a 968 cab would be a nice addition to my p-car garage. I like the styling of both very well. Course I like the 930 and the 928, too....so I have no problem with the eyes peeking out

I admit the 6-speed took some getting used to. However, the more I got to know the 968, the more sense it made to me. This engine really lights up around 5,000 RPM, leaving a short window from there to the redline. The close-ratio 6-speed really helps to keep it in that zone.

The styling really is subjective as I said-but people do really mistake the 968 for a new car all the time. The S2 doesn't look much different from any other 944, of which they built a gazillion. (And saved Porsche's ***, btw). There were less than 13,000 968's made. I know the S2's were just as rare, but stylistically they are the same as all their cousins. My cab gets a lot of attention, but my old coupe in Slate Grey did as well. S2's are great value (I just recommended someone buy one on the 968 fourm), but the wow factor on 968's is huge. People just don't know what the hell the car is. And don't forget the Boxster came in as a replacement about 10 grand LESS than a 968 cab.

I did have a someone at a gas station ask me if my car was a Ferrari as well. And a guy driving a 550/575 Maranello in Fly Yellow gave the thumbs up a couple of weeks ago too. Me, I'd take a nice Fly Yellow Barchetta as a partner to my cab . . .

Damian, I think you & Alex are on to something. When a friend of mine saw my 968 Cab for the first time, he too said it resembled a Ferrari.

Considering that it's a cabriolet chassis, just about everything in the 250HP 951 was carried over to the 951 cabrio, including transmission, S4 brakes, Type-S engine, etc. The ony item that seems to vary from car to car is the M030 suspension with adjustable front shocks. My car does not have this, but I know of a French car that has the M030.

Overall, I think the beauty of the turbo cab is the fact that such an accomplished turbocharged sportscar was offered in convertible form. Hearing the whistle of the turbine and the growl of the wastegate with the top down are truly a unique 951 experience.

As for 968s, the factory never built any turbo cabs, but that really would have been like ice cream over hot spinach, now wouldn't it!

Luis... I absolutely LOVE your car. I'm getting a 951 soon, but wow, the droptop was just an absolutely gorgeous car, not to mention a great performer. It's too bad none came to the states ... did Porsche happen to make any 968 Turbo Cab's?? The 968 Turbo is a great car too... what was the number designation for it, by the way??

The 968 is definitely different. Most people dont realize what car I have. Or its a 944. Or its a Nissan. (keep dreaming) The 968, especially with the headlights, out gets a different attention. A lot of people that have never seen Porsche up close before assume my car is newer than it is. 13 years always surprises them. I dont think i have enough holes on the car to be mistaken for a Ferrari!

Basically, I agree with the above posts, except for one thing that people differ on. Personally, I like the 968 body style better than the 944S2 body style. (especially the coupe!)

If I had to judge the two:

The 968 has some 30+ more horsepower. (+1 for the 968)
The 968 has a more modern outside look (+1 for the 968)
The 968 has a heavier, and quite unnessesary 6 speed (-1 for the 968)
The 968 is significantly more expensive than the 944S2 (-1 for the 968)

Although I'd love to have a 968 coupe to play with on the track, the cost justification is hard to accept: Based on hp alone, I can enjoy about 90% of the 968 with a 944S2, at roughly 50% of the cost.

Then again, I could use that extra power....
