Has anyone used 225-50-15 tires on 944 NA
I am thinking of getting 225-50-15 tires for my '86 944. I have the stock 15" phone dials. Anyone have any experience with this?
Also I am trying to decide between Yokohama ES100 and Kumho 711.
Any infomation would be greatly appreciated

Send a PM to Kevin Baker, he is right there in Houston and you can take a look at his NA as that is what he is using.

I run that size on CCs for autocross, Kuhmo V700s for now. When this set goes I'll be changing size and brand, The Kuhmos suck and the diameter is too small (too much time on the rev limiter). If you are looking for a street setup, the smaller diameter will give you a little more acceleration but it'll also give higher revs on the highway.
Get the Yoko's, I have no experience with them but I can't say to get Kuhmo's, even shaved, their R compounds are no better than a good street tire. Makes me wonder how bad their street tires are!

houston: how wide are your rims? IIRC, you need at least a 7 inch wide wheel to mount 225's.
If they are 7's, you shouldn't have problems with fitting them: BTW, in my 944S2, for DE's, I run 245-45/16 size tires up front on 8Jx16 wheels and have no rubbing issues whatsoever!
-Z-man.

If you get them from Tire rack, they will give you a hard time. Tell them they are for track use, and everyting will be OK.
I'm running Yoko AVS ES100 225/50/15 on 15" PDs with no problems what so ever.

houston,
Hey I have 225/50/15's on the rear and 205/50/15's up front (for now). I really liked the 225's they work fine on the stock PD's. The only problem with the 225's is avaliability. You can get them, they just have to be ordered, NOBODY has them in stock. See me in about two weeks so I can get them for you (I start w/Firestone on 1/19). I'll PM you with the store phone # so you can get in touch with me. My cell is a Pappas phone and will be turned off next week.

I ran that size on my old 85.5 944 front & rear. It had 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs. They were a perfect fit but the speedo was slightly optimistic due to the smaller overall diameter. No big deal though. I'd highly recommend 225/50's over the stock 215/60's.

I ran that size in Toyos on my '84. Those were V-rated and were cheaper than most (read descent) H-rated tires in the stock size. Felt great on the car, mounted easily (so I was told) on the cookie cutters.

AWFUL, is the answer
Jabba- just tell them what you want, what it is going on is none of their business.
As for Tire Rack, ask for Dean at extension 346. He is a buddy of mine tell him Matt with Bridgestone/Firestone sent you. He is an excellent rep (I have been dealing with him for 5 years in some form).

Wow. I run the Kumho Victoracers on 15x7 cookies in 225/50 for autox and I've found them to be excellent. No rubbing problem at all. I love the shorter gearing. It gives alot more punch on the course as well as a lowered CG. I've only recently had problems with hitting the redline for extended periods of time(due to improving skill).
I also run the Kuhmo Ecsta MX on the street(16x7 Phones in 225/50-16) and I've found them to be a good summer street tire. I don't have much to compare to, but overall I would probably buy them again for the price.
