A friend of mine has 17" wheels with 205-50-17 front and 255-40-17 rear. Would there be any rubbing issues with these mounted on 944 NA?

No rubbing if you have the proper spacers on an early offset car.

I ran A032R - H 225/5015 on my 7 and 8 inch fuchs. No problems, slightly shorter gearing...but just right for most road courses and autocrosses. As for mileage, the regular 944 has such a tall 5th gear that I actually preferred the shorter gearing so I could use fifth more. I guess on a highway you might take a 1 mpg hit or so. I'm worried that when I make this upgrade to my S that I will really be revving high in 5th on the highway.

I have 225-50-HR15 at the rear, 215-50-HR15 at front, on my 86 Yellow car. Just duplicated what the previous owner did, who used it for autocrossing. He said he had no problems with it. I myself don't race, and I have had no problem with this arrangement. Cost was also minimal.
