how hard is it to replace the clutch master cylinder? Any hints or suggestions from anyone that has done this?
Thanks!

Its not hard if you have small hands, its still a PITA, The placement is hwat is the problem, squuuezed in there, besides that it straight forward, at least this is one ofthe projects you get to stand up for...

I did a write up on it a while back. A search should turn it up. It wasn't too bad a job. You have to have a 3/8" universal on your ratchet to get to the master cylinder bolts. Also be careful disconnecting the blue hose from the reservoir, I broke my reservoir when I did mine. If you have a Motive Power Bleeder you're in good shape.

EDIT- here is a link to that thread.

My wrench just did it, and replaced all 4 brakes on my brothers NA. He told me he reverse bled the system this time. He commented it was easier.

what happened with the insurance?

Its a hell of a lot easier than an RX7 lets put it that way...damn little handed people!!! Under the dash (well under would be an improvement from UP under), AHHH, RX7 flashbacks!

How do get a wrench or socket in there with all of the vacuum, air conditioning and power lines?
As far as insurance goes i came to an agreement with her adjuster on $1938 for the damages. I talked to her insurance company on tuesday and she had yet to turn in a statement. They sent a 2nd letter out on the 2nd and if the don't have anything by Monday then they will send a certified letter. After that goes out she has 7 days to reply. If she does not then i get the whole amount no questions asked. If she does then we have to decide if there was any comparative negilence onmy part. I don't think that will be a problem since the law states that i had to act as a normal prudent person would have.

Use a 3/8" u-joint and a long extension. You kinda have to get to the bolts by feel. It seems impossible but it's not.
One more important thing--Cover the inspection hole on the top of the bellhousing!! I think there is some sort of magnetic attraction that draws loose nuts into that hole.

even if they split it 50/50 its better than the 100 they laid on you in the beginning. she probably wont send in a letter because she has to state and sign that she blew the stop sign.

I was talking to a couple of people I know that work there last week and they told me that after i left she was trying to force people into signing a statement stating that she stopped at the stop sign. She only gave up after the deputy sheriff told her it did not matter if she had stopped or not, it was still her fault for failing to yield the right of way.

Ok, I got the master cylinder out today after spending 8 hours trying to get my neighbors car started so i could go to town to get the universal since i could not find mine. Came out fairly easy especially after i broke the plastic fitting off on the top. Damn cold weather. The high today was -16.
My next question is how do you install the new one? Do you have to do from underneath the brake booster? I tried to do it from ther top but the damn air conditioning lines are in the way.

I found that popping off the brake fluid reservoir gave me room to come in at it from the side. Its not easy and you just have to be patient. One other thing is the flare fitting on the pressure line has to go in perfectly straight or it won't thread. So if it doesn't thread fairly easily bend the line a bit by hand so that it looks like it is going in perfectly straight. Good luck!
