I need to buy brand new bolts for the fuel rail and my two front seats in my early model 1985 944. I can’t go to a hardware store because I don’t even have the original ones so I wouldn’t know what I’m looking for. When I bought the car the seats were unbolted and the fuel rail was taken off and all the bolts from both are missing. Is there anywhere online where I can buy some brand new bolts?

 

Are you familiar with PET? Will at least point you in the right direction w/regards to sizing.

I don't know where you are located, but I would think your local hardware store would have these and the seat bolts. My go to is Ace Hardware here in Indiana, it's rare that they don't have what I need. I have gone to the dealer for a few one off things.

 

I'm pretty sure all the bolts you need are M6 x 1.00. The 6 is 6 mm and that is roughly the size of the hole you are trying to fill, if you want to check that way. The 1.00 is the thread pitch, which for this size bolt is a course thread and what the hardware store is most likely to have. There is a slight chance one or both of these locations are fine thread but I don't think so. For the fuel rails, get the shortest ones they have. I have found that external hex head bolts to not work on the seats, as you are not left with any room to get a socket on them. I would get internal hex head screws and install them with an allen key . These also don't need to be very long. Test fit them before you install the seats to get everything freed up. Pray that that captive blind fasteners installed at the factory are not goobered up as repairing them is not a simple process. If you can get your new screws to go in by hand, it will make life simpler once the seats are in position.

I think you can get everything at the hardware store but if you are willing to buy 25 or 50 at a time, I like www.McMaster.com. By the time you pay hardware store prices for 8 seat bolts, you'll get 50 from McMaster for the same price! The McMaster P/N for the seat bolts I purchased is 91290A323.

They keep a very large inventory of yellow zinc (dichromate) fasteners that look like Porsche OEM.

 

 

 

You can also go to Autoatlanta's website and use their version of PET (more user friendly than the real thing). They list bolt sizes as well.

One thing I've found with that black-oxide coated stuff from the hardware stores is that it rusts like there's no tomorrow! Even from just sitting in the air...and I'm in the East Bay, CA, where it isn't exactly humid.
